I've noticed that in 8 out of 10 competition dove acts, the finale always ends in a Proline or Neilson Cage Vanish.... Who was the trend setter for this... I love the look of it but was wonderng if anything else compares to it... (I'm not a huge fan of the carausel (sp?) vanish...it doesn't seem to fit me...)
Any ideas? Bryan |

Lee Eun Gyeol from Korea have a special vanishing cage whereby the table splits into 2 after the cage vanishes... I think he got it custom made in Korean ( or I could be wrong)
I remembered years ago at WMS I saw Joel Ward's act which ends the the "Doves to Rabbit" prop , but the doves all transform into tiny helium balloons which floats into the air.. This is probably one of the coolest application of the prop I've seen. Regards, Jeremy |

Andy AMyx uses a dove closer where the cage is lit on fire and it opens up. it's kind of hard to explain. He has the doves in the cage, lights the cage on fire and the cage unfolds and the doves have magically disappeared. It's something a little different. I guess you could also finish the act using a rabbit wringer type of contraption. Hope this helps. Alkways remember, think outside the box.

That would be cool to see! Do you know if Amyx has that on tape somewhere?
I'm sure there are other ways to end a great dove act... It just seems that a Vanishing Cage is the only way out right now... Maybe I have to think more outside of the box... Any other ideas? Bryan |

I think this ones just going to takealot of thought. But in a normal show a dissapearing dove cage still brings down the house.

I've been doing the proline vanish as a closer for a long time now. There were other choices out there, but this one appealed to me most. However, it was unfortunate to discover since then, virtually all the other dove acts out there ending the same way. That aside, and in retrospect, one has to take into consideration Fitzkee's theory of the audience's thought process following a vanish. In my experience, I've found it true more often than not.

One of the best closers is the flaming doves in cage transportation. This was an invention of an Ohio magician who only grants it to young magicians he thinks is deserving of it. I have seen 2 different magicians use it at Abbott's Get-Gether and for the contests.
A cage is hanging from an 8' tripod stand. The cage is small black and wire only. Throught the show 2 doves are setting in the cage. You would sware they are moving, or is you brain doing it. Magician looks at the cage and the birds burst into flames and incinerate into nothing. The magician is hold a flapping bird in each hand. A very effective transposition effect. It has won at least 2 magicians contests instantly. |
