Check out the above link which shows the very latest from Chance Wolf. I like it and so I've ordered one but was curious about what the word on the Café was. What do you think? Anyone care to share/explain why the wand is crooked? What would you tell your audience? Smartini |

Hey...I don't think any explanation is necessary, unless you're using this while you're performing classic magic in a tux. If you have even 1 WW prop anywhere in sight, with it's off-center design and lopsided legs/feet...I think it's self-explanatory. I know you...it'll work fine! I still need to get one!

Steve,
no explanation is necessary but it might be nice..."Hey magic dude...what happened to your wand?" I think it would be interesting to have some fantastic, outlandish story to go along with the wand...hmmm...anyone? Smartini |

I disagree. My goal would be for the kids to see it is bent, ask about it, then I would deny it is bent. That is funny as heck to the kids. No matter what you don't acknowledge it is anything but straight.

It was playing freeze dance and never got back in shape.
We had an argument about magic words. It really got bent out of shape over the whole ordeal. It has a complex about being so tall, and wants to be shorter. I tried the moses trick turning it into a snake, but it didn't really work. |

A witch who resented your public performance of magic tried to turn you into a toad, but all the spell did was bend up your wand a bit. It still works.

I plan to have a struggle getting this out from behind My table.
The bent wand is the prefect end result. |

I like all of these interesting ideas...what do you mean it's bent...hand it to a child and then turned and seem surprised when you later notice it's bent..."It's not bent...what do you mean?...aaaaggghhh!"

Or you could so something like this.
"Because I am the powerful magician with super human strength I get the super BIG magic wand... but since you are just an apprentice beginner magician assistant. you get the smaller wand. It still may work so be careful." I hand it to them bent but do not see it. I go and get a breakaway wand for myself but straighten it out. I then turn as I say, " ok now that I have my cool super wand.. AGHHHHHH what happened. WOAH (look at girl and then the wand and then the girls face again). "Woah I thought she was just a beginner magician. But look. She was so pwerful nad has such a good imagination she used her super human magic to bend mywand. YIKES!!! you must be good." See my wand is sio frieghtned right now it just falls apart. Make the break-a-way wand fall. It is just anidea but gets the look don't see principle working for you as well as empowers the kid thinking they did some real magic. Plus it is funny and gets a second laugh when your wand gets scared. Just an idea to play around with for this wand. Kyle

Would there be a way to switch it for a normal wand without the audience knowing? you go to use the normal wand and have a puff of smoke or some sparks and in the confusion switch it for the bent wand and say something like
"oops a misfire" or "oops I was holding it backwards, that just goes to show you kids never point a loaded wand at anyone" I do have to say though I like Chance's products but don't really like this one, if it started out straight then bent itself it would be something for me!

Great ideas folks! I will add some of these into the "instructions"...since there isn't much to write in the first place.
Macmagic, Just for the record, I had no intention of creating an "effect" with this wand. It simply is what it is like any other "Magic Wand" except it looks wacky. Just an extra touch to complete the look and use of my wacky line of magic. I can assure you I had some real crazy ideas for a wand but decided to keep it time/cost effective for all parties. Glad ya like the rest of my things either way take crae Chance

"Never lend anything to Uri Gellar" might work for adults.
For stage shows,if it's bent in one plane, you may be able to hold it side on, and either slowly revolve it so it looks like it's bending in your hand or give it a quarter turn when you hand it to a kid. George |

I dig it! I think it looks great, wacky like my other props. I have talked to Chance about it and he says it's "truly indestructable" which is good, cause I'm hard on props.
I think I like the "It's not bent" idea the best, anytime you can argue with kids at a show it's fun! When I'm done making the gum with the ABC I always argue that "kid's don't like gum" and that's why I don't share. The kids go nuts when you say this. Then I act like I'm surprised they really do like gum. Good stuff Chance, can't wait to get mine. Does it come in purple? Keith

If this happend to my magic wand, I'd throw it away. The magic is that Chance gets people to pay $35 for it! But ... to each his own!

Maybe you can take the time to manufacture an item or two and then you would have an educated opinion on pricing. Until then...to each his own. Comments like yours is what makes the Café so fun! shheesh! Chance Wolf Wolf's Magic

Holy crap!
Star, you obviously have never bought anything that Chance has built. I worked with Chance for a day in his shop. It's an extremely difficult business to turn a profit in. For every step you take forward, you find 2 more problems that you have to deal with. It's VERY hard work. I figured this out in 1 day. I'm guessing you don't do kids magic? This is the perfect compliment to all the Wacky props. Kudos Chance, I'll buy 2 to make up for this guy. Anyone remember what Thumper's mother said? If you don't have anything nice to say.... Keith

Keith,
Thanks for the support. I have been an professional artist/designer/builder for over 20 years. I would have never survived without the ability to withstand criticism as it is part of the job. I actually welcome it as I have learned more from others views than being trapped in my own creative box. However, criticism is only valid from those who have experience in the field and or the hands on examination of my work or anybody else's for that matter. Let me be clear that everyone has a right to an opinion. If ya don't like, don't buy it. But do not degrade the buying/value intelligence of my customers if you haven't even seen the prop first hand. It just comes across poorly. Once again, no hype. It's JUST a silly wand. Not the new SUPER DUPER LEVITATOR SYSTEM which can stand all angles, full cavity search for gimmicks and take you to Godlike status within 60 seconds of practice. Nope. Just a silly wand. I thought my customers would enjoy using with their props. It fits within the style and I created it. many of the fine folks that support my company apprecaite that fact alone. Starrpower, I do not want this to escalate any further. Keep buying the magic you enjoy....we blocked you from buying anything anyways Just kidding! Take care Chance

Chance and Keith,
Yes, I do kids' shows. And I DO own stuff of Chance's (at least one item I can think of, anyway.) I didn't mean to sound degrading of him or his products; I was just offering a personal opinion of that ONE particular item, and that I, myself, would't use it, (hence the "to each his own" line.) I didn't intend it to sound like an insult or a indictment against Chance. I apologize if it sounded otherwise. Chance, I HAVE marketed items, going back to the 1980's & 90's, and you've probably seen some of my stuff advertised in the magic magazines of that time through various dealers. If you think it makes my opinion more valid, so be it. However, I do wonder what's the point of discussion if you get flamed for voicing a different view? It doesn't translate into being mean or rude to state an opposing view. In fact, what's the point of posting a bunch of "dittos" ad infinitum; does that advance a conversation? Are we not allowed to say we don't like something, and can only post if we DO like something? I don't get it... |
