We had guests over the weekend, including my Invisible Cousin and his family (long story best left for another post). In my haste to prep a meal for 10, I took inexcusable shortcuts, resulting in sub-par flavours...and reviews. Tonight's menu -- for just my Better Half and I -- is meant partly to redeem that "Meal Which Is Best Forgotten":
Tandoori-style chicken (on the grill -- sorry, no tandoor at my place) A simple dal Some chapatis or papadam with sauce Mango pickles (store bought -- sorry, no mango trees here either) Brown basmati rice And...maybe...besan barfi for dessert. Dinner's at 7, Magi |

I love Indian food. Next time please try to pick a night when I'm not teaching.

Hi Leland,
Drat! I missed dinner at your place! Next time tell me ahead of time so I'll know to show up. It all sounded wonderful! Dunno about Barfi however..never tried that, can you serve cheesecake instead? |

As for the pickles, you should try a lemon pickle, it's fantastic (it's just lemon wedges, ginger, green chilli peppers pickled in lemon juice with turmeric (the bright yellow stuff) and salt.) The food is strong, but sure is tasty!

Yeah, well, you might wanna hold your reservations, Magi...a beer-marinated, grilled chuck roast dinner this past Sunday did not...uh, fulfill my expectations.
No, no...it was quite tender (I know, chuck would not have been my pick for the grill, either, but it was CRAZY tender...almost like ropas viejas). And the dark, dark beer used for the marinade was VERY drinkable. However, the combination just didn't work out quite right. Sorry, the cuisine's something of a mixed bag over at Chez Stone |
