I've been playing with my flipper coin and the unflipping seems very awkward. If anyone has a link to a video or two of someone using the coin in the context of a routine I'd greatly appreciate it. Again, I'm just unsure about the "get ready move" but my coin is a cheapo from Sasco so I think the shell is bent out of shape a bit. It sure doesn't just "open" when held correctly, I have to sling my whole hand down. Thanks in advance.

Are their any good DVD's dedicated to flipper coin routines?

I'm afraid the DVD is unlikely to help you. I almost bought that same coin, but after fumbling with opening it, asked the kid behind the counter to show me how to set it up nonchalantly. He couldn't.
Your best option (for the Sasco, at least) is probably to use a stout paperclip to keep it prepped and ready in your pocket. Ditch the clip as you fish it out... Regards, -jjg |

Troy Hooser is the specialist on this coin gaff performances. You need his book (DesTroyers) and his dvd that talks about the flipper. It also talks about maintenance and how to properly open it (giving up on it is not the solution). You will do yourself a ton of good by obtaining these sources. BTW, Troy is awesome with working with this gaff. Even when you know what he's doing, it's difficult to follow. Real foolers!

You get what you pay for. Save up for a Schoolcraft if you must have a coin or soon Porper will have Flipper Poker Chips. We sold out of the few we had at WMS last week in Las Vegas.

I own Destroyers which was why I bought the flipper coin too. In the coins through the table routine it is essential to show the hands empty and that I'm only using 3 coins. Otherwise I might as well just be using an extra coin and working around the difficulties. I have changed the get ready move (since it may take a few attempts) so that I tap on the coin with one of the flippers while concealing the other. Anyways, I just wanted to see a video or two at a place like youtube.com where someone was using this gaff so I could see how they covered the get ready move. The closest thing I can come to now is knocking on the table with the severe back of the hand that holds the coin. Thanks everyone for your replies, sorry I wasn't more detailed in my question.

I've seen the discussions about the Butter Coin here on The Café... most didn't like the construction but a few thought it was good. Most everyone thought the DVD that came with the butter coin was good. If I'm just starting with coin gimmicks is the Butter Coin easier to manage than a flipper? Or is the butter coin a complete waste of time/money? (Sorry for hopping in on your flipper discussion, Lucas. Hope it's ok.)

If you put the band in properly the coin will flop open easily.

Travisb, you said "If you put the band in properly the coin will flop open easily. " What does properly refer to? Also, I feel slightly sure that it is the shell that is slightly bent out of shape and that's where the coin is catching but I can't seem to bend it correctly.

I found when you put in a new band for the older style flipper, it doesn't open as easily as when it is stetched a little bit. I had to sort of jolt it out. That's why I recently purchased a gravity flipper. I agree with Pete, save your money and get a good one.

Hi all,
Pete is right...save up and get the Schoolcraft half flipper. I picked up one from Stevens Magic (the link is listed below). I have another flipper that I got from Daytona Magic a while back (this is similar to a Sasco). The rubber band broke as they are "wont" to do. The problem is the coin itself. The "something" is glued in a little too well, and I can't get it out, making the coin unusable. The Schoolcraft flipper is a gravity opener, making it a snap to open (it practically does so itself). Another advantage is that it lays flat when laid down (other flippers give you that "pup tent" effect). If you're just going to play, any flipper will do, but if you need a "worker"....save up for the Schoolcraft. Blessings, Bob Phillips http://www.stevensmagic.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=7710 Posted: Mar 12, 2006 10:31pm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi all, I also forgot to add that the flipper is made from a 1964 Kennedy half. This is the first year of the Kennedy halves, and the last year that they used the "real" silver, rather than the sandwich junk that was produced later. This is quality throughout. Bob |

I agree with Pete. You get what you pay for. It only costs a little more to go "first class". Pete, any idea when the chips will be available again?

Joshua Jay recently lectured and was selling "Tango" flipper coins made in Argentina. Very good quality with ease of operation. Inexpensive as well. You can buy them direct from Joshua Jay on his website. I purchased a flipper and shell. Very impressed with the quality.

Are the tango flippers of the newer style that we're seeing these days with nice edges? and providing the nice method of "unflipping".
this coin has gone thru some evolution in the recent past.

Yes Frank, very easy to access the flipper portion and you can't see any marks/cuts at all. I bought a second set, I was so impressed.
