Harry H - at least we didn't have to put up with T.S. this year.

Mike - good luck emailing B.M.C... I tried it once and all I got back was "how dare you? don't you know that we are medal-wearers?"

T.S ? Im racking my brains here Top Hat,remind me.

I too emailed B.M.S one year and got more or less same curt reply. They don't care.Silly old duffers stuck in their little clique.Wish I could remember the emails now...I think it was Derek Lever I emailed.

Yes John Thompson was there Sunday.

I missed Blackpool this year as I had other commitments, but will be there next year.

Yes, the dealers often look tired, particularly on Sunday afternoon; but wouldn't you if you'd spent the best part of three days on your feet, demming the same tricks, and having to do this with a smile permanently fixed on your face?

Can anyone post a review of Martin Nash's lecture? Was it any good?

I was actually disappointed in Martin Nash's lecture as were others that I spoke too. That was the main lecture for me so maybe I was expecting too much.

However I think that it's great that some of you guy's email the B.M.C and complained but the magic community will never get its head out of Derek Levers ass,

It was a real shame Billy McComb couldn't make it. I missed his lecture the last time he was here, for that I hit myself.

The best acts were definately tony Chapek (guy with the Tv), Fukai and Men in Coats. It looked to me like Mark and Alex got the timing wrong on a few of their illusions, like releaseing the fire cage after the cloth was taken away.

Enjoyed Rick Merrill, Chris Capehart and Michael Ammars lectures.

Didn't like the mentalism show, but then metalism aint my thing.

It was great to meet Joe Porper and actually see his stuff in person. Pictures just don't do them justice. Bought a few things form him.

Why do people have to stand in big groups chatting in the middle of the dealer stands, it's hard enough getting through as it is.

What the *^&*& is it with the president of the BMC wearing that stupid sash as if hes some sort of royalty!

Will probably go again next year, but I'm not sure about the VIP thing. Their limiting it to 500 tickets, aint that a bit much for a VIP. They should have limited to nearer 100, or not bothered at all. Suppose it's just another way of getting money out of us.

The V.I.P thing is not all that, really. If you want to sit in the stalls but don't get a stalls ticket, wait until interval and then go downstairs and blag an empty seat!! That's what I did.
So wish I could remember Derek Lever's emails to me!! MAybe I'll just email again!

LOL! Its what sets them apart from the punters don't you know. What I find peculiar is Ken Dodd, every Sunday afternoon he gets an escort round the dealers hall by said sash man! Holding him by the arm like he's an invalid.Didnt seem to have any trouble walking on and off stage Sunday night!!

The magic community-certainly dealers-have to kiss Derek's ass to a degree or they don't get a stall! Why do the dealers(who pay a lot of money for their stands)also have to pay for registration!! Jesus how tight is that?

Having said that, my friends and I all have a marvelous and fantastic trip to Blackpool despite the VIP thingy next year. Come one, give them a break, man! for £68, it can only get you a lousy seat in London's bad play. Please give some creadit to the organisers of Blackpool who put together everything that worth £68 a day not for the whole weekend, almost from 9.00am till midnight!!I think £20 for VIP is great since some of the attendants are late comer who can't be bothered to meet the "star" and can't wait to take the first train back home.....

Gratefully,
MagoStevo

Thank you all for your kind comments about my lecture in the Kids R' US section on the Saturday. I have a few lecture notes over, but I will only sell to people in the UK. I live in the USA, and I believe my cloth of invisibility is so good, I don't want everyone doing it on this side of the pond!! Email me off line if you want a set.

Great Thread Guys,

My thoughts....

2005 as my First Blackpool, then I attended 2006.

PLEASE BMC, don't bring Jupiter back, he is boring, talentless and a waste of convention time.

Also I think the amount of dealers should be reduced to clear out the 'dealers' selling tatty bits of crap in sandwich bags and damaged books. Seriously there were dealers that COULDN'T have sold anything all weekend as it was all junk.

I agree that people shouldnt talk amongst the dealers, this was indeed a pain.

The comment about the dealers being 'tired' is fair but needs to be elaborated on. I PERSONALLY think they were tired in that, most of them were pretty naff dealers, it turned into more of a magic jumble sale. Certain dealers, the good ones, were on top form all weekend, respect to all of you.

The comperes in the Gala show this year were AWFUL and the acts for me were a total let down, apart from Tony Chapek OF COURSE!

All in all I didn't enjoy this conention, for presonal reasons as well as convention dowfalls. However I hope to come along next year and I will be SURE to prearrange meetings with lots of people, after all, the lectures and dealers are just a sideline, the REAL magic is meeting and talking with people who share a the same passion as you!

Also, I agree that the BMC do a good job organising, but lets remember that the dealers all contact THEM, so that's half the work done. They all they have to do is book the venue (half hours work?) and book the performers. Lets face it, most performers are happy to perform at Blackpool so it cant be that difficult.

And they have a YEAR to do it! I think that's enough time to get it right? Smile

Perhaps they should be contacted and we should set up an e-panel, like a group of silent advisors to bring the event up to date?
