I cut through 10-15 feet of rope every show. when done it's all unusable for anything else(including giving away).

For the last few years I cut whats left into 12" sections and use it when I teach magic for the knot in rope trick. but my magic classes only run during summer and I have MUCH more rope than I need.(generally the calsses are 2 groups of 30, which leaves me with 100's of feet of rope I have no use for.

I have tried different routines where I don't actually cut the rope (pavel super walking knot, tabery) but I don't like them. SO I continue to cut...and wind up having lots of rope that usually ends up in the garbage.
If feels like a waste just tossing it.

So for those who use ALOT of rope - what do you do with it?

I use 8 feet of rope for every show. I give the small pieces to volunteers, and the leftover 5 feet or so I save for walk around where instead of a three step trick I do a one step "cut and restore". For kids birthday parties usually they make me cut it up in 6" pieces for a souvenier to take home.

What we need is a list of 101 uses for itty-bitty rope ends. I'll get it started.

Shred the rope and use for:

Garden mulch
Kitty Litter
Making fancy home-made paper

Don't shred the rope and use for:
Making a knotty cat toy cats can chase (rub with catnip)
Take to the movie theatre when lots of kids are there and ping them in the back of their heads with the tiny knots.

Donate it to schools or churches. The small pieces of ropes can be used for crafts, measuring, math, and science experiments.

Get some glue and create some art.

burn them in your show...(I like fire)
of course they burn magically.

let them all foat and let them all start burning at once.

think of something crazy, figure out a method and do it.

You could cut up the ropes into a professors nightmare set and use it for magic workshops. They can use this set to practice the routine.

I also use 8' of rope every show but I give it away to spectators and volunteers. They actually like to keep it!

I would like to take a moment to verify that we are talking about "sash cord" and not actual "rope"?

Bob and I have beat this subject to death. I use Big Lots cotton core 7/32" soft clothes line. They sell it $3 for 100 feet and I buy it by the shopping baskey load.

A. give to volunteer
b. save to use in steve bedwell's "in over your head" rope routine.

bedwells is one of the very best rope routines I've seen.
plays huge, tons of comedy, callbacks, etc. it's a must-have
for anyone's library.

You are right Steve's routine is the only rope routine that needs left over rope, and I will also agree that his routine really plays well.

PS Frank how do you like my new look. I wanted to scare women and children, but my wife just laughs at me. Purple shades, and a panama hat makes me feel large and incharge (except at home).
