This year I will be performing a few magic shows during this years annual Relay for Life. The event is an all night walk to raise money for cancer medical research. There are events like this several times a month throughout the year in the U.S.
My team decided (and I willingly accepted) to perform at the event to raise more money for our group. Here are the conditions: Outside I will have nothing behind me except more people wandering around the event Most importantly: The kicker for this event is that since this is an all night walk, someone from the team must be walking at all times. Thus from when the event starts at around 3 PM on Friday and ends around Noon the next morning, people will be constantly walking the track. Participants are allowed to stop when they wish, but there will be thousands of people walking around the perimeter of the track. What are some tips for performing in such a condition? What are some good tricks that can be performed in this type of condition? Of the 2500-4000 people attending this year, it is expected that less then 20 kids there will be under the age of 13. Since this particular event is held at a high school, 60% of the students are between the ages of 15 and 18. The remaining 40% consists of adults mainly 30-50 years of age and senior citizens. Thanks in advance for the help! Derek Merdinyan |

Street magic effects: linking rings, rope, cups and balls. Cards and coins to build your first few people (edge). A sound system for your voice would help a lot.
Oh, my friend we're older but no wiser, for in our hearts the dreams are still the same...

If they are walking you may want to have drinks available and perform for those who stop- I don't know if this would interfere with your performance- but the drinks could be sold for extra money and 50% goes to charity.
My new corporate show is a Perform on Ground level surrounded and It is comedy mental magic with some very funny lead ins to each trick.- I find that the menatl effects pack small and are easy to transport and they reset quickly- I could perform the stage show multiple times per night without any advanced reset. I would however for the younger audience go with a street act- for example the Jeff McBride live on stage commando act would work- it's linking rings, rope, mouth coils about 20 minutes or so- and other than replacing some of the rope and mouth coils should be easy to reset, move around etc- it is pack small play big. |

Derek,
You will find some very helpful info about this on the buskers/street magic forum here at the Café! Good luck.
"What's your drug?" she asked. "Hope" he said, "The most addicting one of all."
