I think the answer depends on how you do your reveal and whether the coin is signed or not ?
I use a simple steal of the signed coin out of the hand. and tear the packet and "pour" coin and sugar out.

The best version I've ever seen is Scotty York's version where the coin revealed is signed on both sides by both the spectator and you the magician....
It's in one of the videos in his series
“We're two tigers away from an act in Vegas.” Greg House M.D.

David Harkey has a very good one, totally impromptu, which is called "Sweet talk". You simply trow the sugar packet on the signed coin and this one vanish completely to go inside the sugar packet. You then show your both hands completely empty, tear the packet and let the spectator remove the coin himself.
I've tried it and I've got tremendous reaction. Richard |

I thought someone had a gimmick that clipped inside your jacket. Anyone know what this is.

Flourish Dude - That one is called "How Sweet it is!" by Diamond Jim Productions. I've used it a lot, but not for walk around. The reset is impracticle for most strolling situations. But it's great for a cabaret or after dinner style performance.

I just checked the book "simpley harkey" and boy that guy's got a lot of stuff in there I recognize from other magicians. Did this guy think up all this stuff?
I never see him credited much anywhere in others' works. I do remember reading some thread about penquin stealing one of his effects with no credit. what about the others? I did find the coin to sugar packet routine in there with some nice funny patter as well. . . about "ice-milk".

Flourish,
I'd toss the coin & go with an effect called "Anywhere Bill" availiable on Hocus Pocus. I use it with the sugar packets at my table-hopping gig and it KILLS!!
Everybody wants to beleive.....we just help them along.

The one by Ellusionist is called "Go Inside Sugar". That is the one I do and it hits hard. Totally impromptu.

I have had people literally scream just from using David Roth's version. Simple, yet classic.

How Sweet it is!" by Diamond Jim Productions. I believe it works on the principal as "FireTrap". The secret something can be purchased from Viking Magic. Its also used to get a coin inside a ball of yarn.

How Sweet It Is does not use the gizmo from Firetrap. I still perform HSII on a regular basis. The effect absolutely fries people. Imagine a signed coin that they remove from a sealed sugar packet... it kills! No thumbtips. No holding it behind the packet. No switching coins. The method works and leaves people dumbfounded. Needless to say, I am very proud of this effect.

Hi Diamond Jim. I also thought that How Sweet It is used the same gizom as Firetrap. If I understand you correctly, a "signed coin" appears "inside" of a sugar packet that is torn open by a spectator. Is the surgar packet able to picked out of the sugar packet container on the table or is the sugar packed introduced at a later time then to have the spectator tear it open. Another words, is the sugar packet on the table or in the possession of the spectator just prior to the coin vanishing and having them tearing the packet open to see the signed coin inside?

Tom,
This is what the spectator sees: The magician vanishes their signed coin. Later the magician asks the spectator to hand him several sugar packets from the holder on their table. The magician begins holding each packet up to whatever light source is at the table as he says, "You know SWEET N LOW has begun placing prizes inside their packages to compete with the other brands.. you know like Cracker Jacks!" Ultimately the audience sees that one of the packets has the shadow of something foriegn inside. The magician insists that the spectator examine and feel the packet. It begins to dawn on the audience what must be inside. The magician begins to rip open the packet and can allow the spectator to finish tearing off the top and pour the contents (sweetner & the marked coin) into their own hand! Typically I'll fairly and slowly rip off the top and squeeze the coin on the inside of the packet so that it protrudes half-way out of the packet and insist that they take it to verify that it is the same coin that vanished a moment earlier. As they brush off the sweetner from the coin they realize that it is the same one with their initials!! This is usually when the audience mutters or shouts some type of expletive. I spin my head around 3 times and bid them farewell as I hand them my card. DJ |

Can a sugar packet be used instead of Sweet-N-Low? |

Tom,
Almost every type of sugar or sweetner packet could be used. DJ |
