Okay, now I need some tips from you guys. On his DVD Wilson makes references to other methods of doing the change. Where can I find these other methods? Wilson’s revolution change is good, but I would love something with more of a bang. Any thoughts on other methods for the actual change?

Peter Studebaker, from his video "Classic Studebaker", has a trick called "Lotto Cash". The packet is sideways making a flash change. Bob King has a version called "Dollarama" that is streamlined. But, let's face the facts, they're pretty much all the same. I would agree, however, that you can't beat Wilson's presentation.

People just don't expect to see a bill change from one denominaton/color to another. It's just not possible in their minds! I have done the "poor man's" Hundy (2 to 20's) and the "preferred way" and overall the response is pretty much the same; "WOW"! Now, say if I were hanging around wealthier folks or my pimp daddies, yes, the 1's to 100's w/b the way to go. But since I'm around farmers and working class people, I think the 2's to 20's are more realistic for me. I also have the occassional proverbial "can you change 1's to 100's" prop ready when they comment, which is maybe 50% of the time. All I can say is no matter what denomination you wish to work with, just do this great and wonderful piece of magic. |

Well I got a bit of a problem. I live in Canada and our bills, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100s are all different colours. Right now I have the least expensive gimmick made with 5s and 10s. I am using a patter of "The Quickest Way To Double Your Money" by folding it in half. It words great. But I get little edges of the different colour bills peeking out when the wad of bills is folded. Oh I just noticed that post about cutting 1/16 from the other bills. I'll have to go buy a paper cutter right now heh.
I have seen 3D Cash and I think it is just too bulky to use. Slow Burn is nice but I don't like the angles. Plus with Canadian money I guess I get that colour change effect as well. Making the gimmick really is challenging for me, heh. Needs really sharp creases and new bills work a lot better. Has anyone come up with any good lines when doing this effect? Like what to say when they want you to do it with their bills to begin with? Or what to say when they ask you to do it with their bills after you preform the effect? I was also thinking that perhaps roughing up the surfaces of the bills would allow the rubber cement to to get a better hold or not.

I didn't need to rough up my bills for Hundy, but I did use a paint brush to apply the R/C. I let them dry for 30 seconds. Then I pushed them together while they were still wet so I could reposition them if necessary. I then made the crease sharp by folding the bills into packet form and carefully pulling the crease of the packet through two silver dollars, which I held like pinchers. I did this for each bill pair. When everything was glued together, I placed the entire packet under a make-shift press to flatten and dry. Even though this may sound like a lot of work, the entire process took 10 minutes before the packet was ready to flatten and dry.

I'm not sure if Slow Burn uses the exact same gaff as Hundy, but I think you could use the same moves(there are lots of videos of it on the web). EZ Money(also called Traveling Cash) is a similar, but much simpler gimmick than Hundy, yet it has a very clean effect. I found a video of it on http://www.magichut.net but can't find it now. It was in a section where they were teaching you tricks. John John

ANother tip: use an iron to iron the bills (non-gaffed bills) then place the whole packet under a few large books as Cloneman suggested. Makes a much thinner pack.

The only change he demos on the DVD -- that's the one I mean. I would love to find other changes; either one similar to a color change with cards or something with a snap.

As our bill colors contrast so much, I also find I had to modify the routine so the "wad" never faces the audience. I found it just too risky otherwise.

Here are my thoughts:
I do 1s to 20's. While doing the false counts I tell them there are 20 bucks in my hand. After disagreeing with me I tell them "I'm gonna REALLY make it look like 20's. It's gonna look like it so much that THIS is gonna turn into a 20." Telling them what's gonna happen, they are so anxious and skeptical of what's gonna happen they don't blink for the revolution which is what I want. When it happens they flip. I say, "Wait. I forgot to tell you... I didn't just turn THIS one into 20"....you get the idea. If you've noticed the US $20's now have a striking green and red on the bill..which adds a sort of color change to the effect.. Actually, I think they are changing the color of the $10's as well..my ATM spit out yellowish redish 10 dollar bills to me last night..This will only make the effect stronger. |

Here’s another little twist I tried last night: after doing the change, top it off by “switching back to the gold standard” and producing a large gold coin from the bills.
I discovered this by noticing that it is an easy matter to do the routine with a gold coin classic palmed. Because you are switching bills from hand to hand throughout, the same types of “hide the coin moves” used in card/coin assemblies work well. I haven’t figured out if it is better to produce the gold coin at the end or to produce it before the change, show the hands empty, then do the change.

Your insights into this effect never cease to impress me. That is another GREAT idea and I can see doing this to help transition the flow into a coin routine.

Hiya,
Instead of changing in a circular change, I flip the packet over once and sideways once- I hope that makes sense... And for us Canadians, old $1 dollar bills (which can be found at a coin shop) match our $20's pretty well (not the new ones.) Just my 2 cents, Jamie D. Grant

At times I have changed 5's into 50's and it plays well.
Another thing I do sometimes is I take my Visa check card and place it inside the bills before I make the change and I call it my instant ATM machine. People want to look at the Visa card and it takes heat away from the bills. I am also use tyvek paper for the first part of the routine... I just mark one of the blank pieces of tyvek paper so I know where to start. Then I change a blank piece of paper into a $20 and this means I carry less money in my wallet. Hope you find this useful. This is the basic idea for "EZ Money"(available at Magic Hut as a promotional for registering with their site)/Traveling Millionaire(in Bill Severn's Magic w/Coins and bills). In the latter, you talk about how easy it is to travel w/o carrying a lot of cash, you just take some strips of newspaper and convert them into money. John

I have my gimmick made already but I was wondering if anyone thinks using double stick tape would work in place of the rubber cement?

Noooo. Rubber Cement is necessary because you need the seems of all of the bills to match perfectly. The gimmicked bill will come under a lot of scrutiny and you need those edges perfect.

Well I have my gimmick made with rubber cement and all but I haven't preformed it for anyone yet. For anyone here working with canadian money the colour difference of the bills doesn't give you any problems does it? I would think that trimming the other bills would eliminate the problem this presents? But what about the actual change itself when you rotate the bills over? Does the colour change only add to the effect?
