Who does this Paul Harris effect for others? What kind of reactions do you get? If you don't have a close up pad, what is a good alternate surface to facilitate linking the rings?

I do this all the time, however, I have an alternate handling. As far as the effect goes, it can play big, depending on your presentation. My presentation is done in a kind of "tongue and cheek" fashion and it makes it fun.
They are thoroughly convinced that they were linked and you ripped the ring and restored. The linking portion can be accomplished by setting it on a spectator's hand if no table is handy. Again, I handle this differently, but have used the table and their palm in the past. |

Used to do this effect in the spectators palm as well. works very well for me .
plus,if it happens in their hands it usually gets better reactions. I use a slightly different handling as well though. nice effect -Matt

I do this all the time, I really enjoy this routine.
The alternative to the table link, however, it to dump that phase altogether. I never liked it & never did it...a bit too prone to exposure...too cheesy for me. |

I've been doing this effect for many years. It kills. Instead of the table linking phase I put the middle card in my mouth and then link it from there by dropping it in. Makes it completely an in the hands effect.

I perform this effect. It gets a great reaction. I also put the card in my mouth and link it that way. In the spectators hand is a great idea, Matt!

I used to do this routine and alway got very good reactions. Always had trouble with the tabled link though, so only did it when I was feeling confident and the crowd was right.
BTW it's one of my wifes favorites and she is very bored with anything magic after 14 years, so that should speak volumes!! |

This is a great trick table to table. I used to set up as many sets as would fit into a card box and leave the pieces at the table. Folks loved it. Love the drop from mouth idea...never occured to me! Good stuff,

I've done it with business cards as well which are easier to tear. Always trying to tear the 3 cards is difficult and takes a lot of time, but as was said in another post you could rip the 2 spot cards together and the face card separately.

Hmmm... cardking's drop from mouth idea is a good (great) one. I also dislike the table link only because I clumsily tend to push it forward more often than I'd like to admit. For me, the moment of truth is always the first link. Once I get past that the rest flows quite nicely and naturally.

Another idea to make the tear easier is to take a knife and make a slit in the cards before hand. That gives you a head start and makes a world of difference.

This trick gets a great response. There are two advantages to performing the second link in the spectator's hand: First--as was mentioned earlier on this thread, its more impacting because it happens in their hand! Secondly--the table link is somewhat unpredictable because the table surface has to provide a certain amount of resistance to the card. By placing the card in the spectator's hand you have just the right amount of resistance and the link can be controlled in a more predictable manner.

Only draw back I found when performing the trick was at the end half the time the spectators looked at me expectantly and asked “Well, aren’t you going to put the cards back together?"

On Tony Clarks new DVD " West Coast Conjurers" There is a performance only of Immaculate Connection...as a side note Paul Harris credits Jay Sankey for the effect. That was back in 1987. Didn't know that.

I know it but I don't perform it much. I never really liked how it needs 3 cards. Why would you link 1 card to 2? I doesn't make sense to me. I usually go for hypercards.

Classic force one of 3 cards from the regular deck (same as above), this will be the easiest CF in the world since it's one of three. 3. After the routine, hand out the loops for examination and get the folded minis in a finger palm. 4. Retrieving the loops, fold them in quarters and shuttle pass/switch them out for the folded minis (the size is now the same and when held just right they look identical). 5. Do your favorite magical gesture and reveal that while you may not have enough of the cards to fully restore them to original size, you do have just enough to to make them whole...just a little smaller. |

Just want to add that I like to perform this just after doing cros twist. It makes a nice two phase routine.

What's the best linking card effect friends? Hypercards by Mayne is improptu, but I heard Harris' "Immaculate Connetion" looks better. Help me decide or enlighten me with a better method.

I don't know about Hypercards, but the Harris original is also impromptu.
