Chris Carter is much more entertaining than some of the names you consider heavyweights in mentalism.

Chris has something special, stage presence. And he's genuine! Its amazing to talk with him. When one makes it, they have nothing to prove or hide it seems.
He also has a voice which conveys much emotion and power. If he fails at this he could do voice overs. |

Richard Osterlind-great thinker and very entertaining
Max Maven-come on, it's your friendly neighborhood Mephistophelian Dave Hoy-Never saw him perform, but his effects are astounding Ken Sands-my teacher, mentor and one of my favorite all time magic or mentalism performers Brandon Cross-local and very cool performing style Finally, my absolute favorite is a tie. It would have to be Berglas or Derren Brown. Both are masters of entertainment and top-notch mentalists. Derren's sense of mind control is very intriguing. Berglas has been a master at everything he's done in magic. Cheers, mackmania

The best I have seen live is hands down:
Luke Jermay

In alpha order:
Becker Jermay Kreskin Osterlind From what I hear Archer and Carter may well deserve to be on the list but, alas, I haven't sen them yet. I'm about to correct that with Archer. |

I have seen Kreskin, Eugene Burger, Marc Salem and Max Maven and Banachek perform live for lay audiences, and many others for mentalist audiences. For lay audiences, Kreskin got the biggest "wow" reaction with his guffawing gaping mouth presentation. Max Maven was the most theatrical and garnered the most "appreciation for the art," if you know what I mean. His new show, An Evening of Knowing and Not Knowing trumps anything I have ever seen a performer do for a lay audience. (I've seen him do his normal banquet show a few times and this show a few times). I have described An Evening of Knowing and Not Knowing as "Carl Sagan's COSMOS as a mentalist act." Marc Salem does a really fun show, a good night out, but it won't keep you up at night nor whollop you emotionally like good theater (and Maven's show) can. And Banachek does a great banquet show, fun and funny, exactly what you might expect. But all in all, I'd have to say Maven for his elevation of the art of mentalism to incredible and meaningful theater.

Well I would like to see Tony some time.
And I think I would enjoy Chuck also. Would like to see Uri possibly over lunch or dinner. And really I don't mind watching tapes of myself. J ack Creator of G.O.D.

May I answer this another way. If I wanted to perform as a certain mentalist who would it be. Obviously this is another of those "to each his own". Hands down my favorite mentalist performer is Max Maven. If permitted a second choice I'll take Ted Lesley. Max, to me, is the epitome of how a mentalist should perform. Sorry to say but a lot of other "mentalists" today come across as magicians performing mental magic.

Ouch! I don't know if that's the question to ask, if you know what I mean.
People may get the wrong impression . . . j.
