Why is that JHanes? Gary Kurtz offered this community some stunning and well thought out material. Much to learn from his publications. If you can easily obtain the VHS tapes, what is the fuss over DVD format?

My beef with the buyers rush to DVDs is the lack of actual learning. The harder the information is to obtain, the more likely the buyer/finder/student is to treat the material with respect. Is Kurtz's best material on video? I say no. But the material that is out there is great, and I'd hate to see it go to waste due to over exposure.

I like the printed record. It takes more personal investment from the student and spawns less clones than video.

Justin, I almost agree with you.

I see the problem as more "over eager" students who just want the methods and have not learned how to relate to an audience. Folks who won't bother to pick up a copy of "Leading with your Head" now that it's in print and available at Doc Eason's lectures.

There are guys around who work on the Ramsay tricks yet have not learned how to do the "eye" or "moment" stuff from Robert-Houdin's book, so their stuff looks "technical" or "clinical" as opposed to magical.

Folks... magic is not supposed to look like juggling.

Better to let the material die imho, its too good for mass consumption Smile

Let people who really want it get it on old video's....

One of my very first purchases in magic. It's a whopper. Wish I sold it.

DVD's of the material would be great......

but in order to buy, you must be able to perform Gary's "Trio" from the book and provide a 400 word essay on how Leading with your Head has had a Positive affect on your magic and your interaction with the audience. Smile Smile just kidding.

Seriously, Leading with your Head should be on everyones shelf and I would love to have his wonderful videos on dvd. Gary's view on his early work is very interesting...

He still practices magic by the way.

Actually Brian that is a very reasonable request. 400 words in only 27 lines or so, and Trio was one of his easier ones(which is why it's so easy to hate him)......let's make that a real requirement.

I love Kurtz. I'd love to hear some of his thoughts on his early work myself.

Kurtz once told me in an email that he thought Flurious and the likes of his work at that time was "crap" (jokingly of course). He felt the visual effects he created lacked the strength of the experience of magic on a layperson... and moved onto mentalism where there was more room for hitting the spectator on the inside.

The book I was citing, The Secrets of Conjuring and Magic by Jean Eugene Robert-Houdin, translated by Professor Hoffmann is available as an ebook.

There is also an interesting section up front about kinds of magic including that which is presented as natural/scientific.
