I'm just wondering if P&T's method of debunking is really doing any good APART from the afore-mentioned money and exposure. It seems that they profess to be doing their BULLS**T series, at least in part, to enlighten and educate. If their audience is already on the same page, what value does the debunking have?

I'm wondering if there is a more effective approach to doing the same thing, that might actually influence people who hold different opinions than P&T?

Penn lacks, what Ken Weber writes about in his book Maximum Entertainment (required reading), is his ability to communicate his humanity. His defiant, cynical approach to such topics often makes him come off as a bully.

This unlikable trait is not something that is going to win over any converts - which I don't think is his intent anyways.

Mr. Reynolds, I tend to disagree. What the masses want is some one to lead them. Penn has what the masses want a smug confident attitude. It is what makes him so definable as a character. He's jovial and sybical at the same time. Women love a confident and powerful man so do some men. We want to hang with them and follow those of power.

Ooze confidence and the masses will come. I believe its also called presence. A form of 24/7 stage presence. Beyond that he know what he likes and thinks. He is highly intelligent and can back up his arguments.

I agree that confidence sells. No debate there. However, I think there is a growing bitterness to Penns rants that border on just being whiny. He has always been confident and charasmatic, but lately he just seems less likable to me. I think Teller saves him.

just my opinion.

Penn's radio show has been one of the few successes of the post Howard Stern formatfor CBS radio. So, perhaps the public has not tired of him yet.

Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly (among others) have shown that bullying and being overbearing sell on talk radio. But talk radio has always been about preaching to the converted. Which brings us back to the question of whether Penn & Teller’s BULLS**T approach is an effective way to change people's minds.

As for Penn and his "likability" I truley believe that if he WANTED to be likable he would be just that. He comes off as he does as part of, in my opinion, is a very calculated and quite sucessfull attempt to be entertaining. He is a great contrast to the silent Teller.

He even said to a radio interviewer one time that Teller is not actually silent, just that Penn is SO loud and obnoxious it SEEMS as if Teller is silent.

I believe it is quite calculated on their part. I think they know EXACTLY what they are accomplishing. And I think we could all benifit from actually studying how they do it.

Just my 2 cents.
