Hi, everyone!
Here in Manila there is a mall called "Mall of Asia" because now it is the biggest mall in Asia and it's going to be open this coming May 18 2006. They are hiring magicians but has a screening, they said that they are looking for a unique act that you can't see on an ordinary magic show. I want to be hired on this mall, but the problem is I don't have an expierience doing mall shows so I don't know what to perform, can anyone suggest me what to perform there for my audition? its going to be a 30-45 min screening test, I'm going to be doing stage magic. Thanks!

Be a little leary of this gig. Myself and several of my friends recieved inquiries for this "Mall of Asia" mall opening over 18 months ago. We all replied to them but never got a response. It strikes me strange that the opening is now only 2 months away and they are still looking for someone.
Something sounds fishy. Best, Tim |

Cardcaptor,
It's hard to recommend anything when we don't know what you do. With the show being only two months away, that's not a lot of time to perfect an entirely new act. You may be better off performing what you know and spending the time focusing on a unique thematic presentation of those effects. Make the entertainment unique instead of the magic. This will also minimize any potential loss you may have if Tim's comments hold true. At the very best, the promotions director seems extremely disorganized. With an opening that's only 2 months away, the promotions, advertisements and entertainment should have been in place long ago. Now, just because they're disorganized, doesn't mean you have to be. Make sure the engagement is in writing and follow up with an invoice. Even then, don't hold your breath for immediate payment. If it is a sham, at least you won't have spent a ton of money on new effects. You will, however, have developed a new thematic presentation for the stuff you already know and love. Either way, it will be time well spent. Kent

Hi Timothy!
Actully the Mall of Asia was supposed to be open last January, but because of some problems in the stalls and shops inside the mall it can't be open to the public. So that's why they will be open this May 18, and decided to get some magician from the country. I will try to talk to the event manager to clear this issue about Mall of Asia. Thank you, Timothy, for saying that news about the mall. I will try to clear this. Thanks! Magicman, Thanks for helping, maybe I will watch some video performances to get some ideas on performing. Thank you so much guys!

Kent is right!
I've seen your show Card Captor, and it will not work, since your show is a combination of the different acts of others, which are used at birthday parties. Develop your own with a theme. If you will notice, most of our magicians here in the Philippines don't have a theme, except when they compete. It is because they perform most of the time at birthday parties. Try watching some competition videos from here and abroad. The FISM videos would be a great help. |

I recently talked with the Marketing Manager of this Mall a month ago. They are not hiring any magicians or entertainers at present. If ever there is, it will be done with sponsors and not the mall itself.
Cardcaptor, yes, an event will be held at the opening but it won't be only for magicians but for novelty acts, etc. just to liven and decorate the opening day. It will be handled by the Storyland Management. Contact Rael or Aldino on this matter.
