Hi,
I found this book on Amazon and wonder if anyone read it. It's not exactly a magic or mentalism book, but it is on PK. I am obsessed with perfecting my PK skills - spoons bending, mind over matter, etc. I believe I already have got most 'magic' DVDs and books on the subject, so I would like to read more about it, trying to get the most knowledge about the topic. This book seems interesting in understanding PK, its history, science, documented incidences, etc The PK Zone: A Cross-Cultural Review of Psychokinesis http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0595276......n=283155 If anyone have read this, a short review would be great. I hope I'm not posting in a wrong place. Thanks Phil |

Hi Phil
Colin Wilson's book The Occult is great It would be far more interesting to a Magic Café member than this book It shows a very realistic view of the greatest Psychics of history You should get a second hand paperback copy for about $8/£5 cheers TJ |

And its sequel Mysteries is worthwhile as well. I feel that those two books are Wilson's best work on subject. His other publications (not counting his Outsider cycle breakthrough series and his work on Maslow) have not been as focused or informed.

Hi Phil,
I have simply no idea as to how Colin Wilson's book could possibly help you in PK (as we know it). If anyone can enlighten me however, I promise to listen. Bobser

Hi Bobster
I'm not sure too. Are those fiction or non fiction? Phil |

They are non-fiction reference books with Mr. Wilson's assuredly scholarly approach to the subject. Although not exclusively about PK phenomena, Wilson integrates history, anecdote and his theories of the "unexplainable" and the key players of this literature in an accessible and fascinating manner. Just glancing at his table of contents in either book provides an organizational grounding for the reader in magic....not exclusively "performance" or "theaterical" magic. I'm thousands of miles from my library or I could provide more detail (and more reliable spelling of names). These books are more for your edification rather than being instruction manuals.

Hi Bobser
The original book mentioned is a shut eye book and, as such, IMVHO isn't worth 2 cents to most of the Café members The Occult is a rather skeptical look at some historical 'Psychics' It gives a lot of 'presentational' details of what they did As Wilson is not a magician, it does not 'expose' any methodology Think af some of the 'no effects' books about the 'adventures' of the old great magicians The Occult is a huge, well written, VERY interesting book of this type Do not be lulled into buying his other books without loooking at them first The Occult is a one off Hope this helps TJ |

Colin Wilson is definitely not a magician. I saw him on a TV programme being led around the theatre by a Russian contact mindreader wearing a bag blindfold; at the end CW said that he thought he had seen a demonstration of genuine telepathy. And in one of his books he makes comments implying that Bert Reese was a genuine psychic and of Welsh origin - pity he hadn't read page 1 of Annemann.
I disposed of my copy of The Occult several years ago. It contains a lot of silly statements of mis-fact and shows considerable naivety. If you want a book on genuine paranormal phenomena, try to get hold of "The Reality of the Paranormal" by Arthur Ellison or "Explaining the Explained" by Eysenck & Sargent. Barry |

Mr. Gellar fooled CW as well. The criticisms above are valid. Still, I appreciate both books for sheer volume of territory covered as well as Mr. Wilson's writing style and integration of ideas about human potential. There seem to be many more jewels than toads in both books for me over the years.

EVERYTHING Barry says is 100% right
BUT I know that most of the Café members would enjoy The Occult far more than the original PK book mentioned You can get a paper back copy second hand for about £4/£5 instead of £29 This is an underground best seller for good reason It is about Mentalism as practiced by Masters on the world stage The highest praise in Mentalism is 'You can start religions with this stuff', right? Some of these guys did, LOL TJ |
