I just obtained volumes 1 and 2 of the Encyclopedia of Coin Sleights, and I 'm wondering which of the various sleights do you find most useful? What do you use the most often?
If you have these DVDs, please let me know which sleights are the best to learn first. Also, if you don't have these DVDs, what types of sleights should I be looking to learn? I have some experience, so I'm looking at intermediate and up. Beaker |

You should start with all of the palms. Mainly: Finger, Classic and Thumb.
Then you should learn some good vanishes, ones that suit you. Michael teaches many. Then study all the switches. In fact learn everything you can, but the basics first. I have all the DVDs. I've been doing coin magic for years and these DVDS are excellent teaching and reference materials |

I would hate to tell you which sleights I use most, because the purpose of this DVD set is to find the RIGHT one for you - for your ability, hand size, performing condition. You will be OK if you learn any one sleight from each chapter. Look at them all, decide which one will work best for you, then study it. Once mastered, learn another one from the same topic in order to give your magic a bit more variety. Then, use the rest for reference, for when you need it down the line. Vol 3 is packed with great stuff, so try to get a hold of it when you get the chance. I carry them, if you PM me with your e mail I can send you my price list. Good luck!

Hey Beaker, First of all you made an "ABSOLUTE FANTSTIC CHOICE" deciding to learn from Michael Rubinstein, for he is noted as one of the "VERY BEST" teacher's in coin Magic. If you can,you "MUST" obtain Vol.#3...............
I agree with Boydy >> Learn every thing you can on those DVD'S....... REMEMBER: you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I can say this though...All the different various coin sleights Michael teaches can be utilized with his "ALL NEW ULTIMATE RATTLE PURSE" one way or the other!!!! Beaker, I wish you the very best with your COIN MAGIC!!!! You Made a great Choice ,choosing 'The Encyclopedia Of Coin sleights....It's "TOP NOTCH" ,that's for sure!!! Good Luck young man, MICKEY SILVER |

Thanks for your input!!!
I am learning the first two steals on DVD1 right now (can't remember the names, I'm at work right now) and most of the palms I had already known. Practice practice practice. I did all my original learning from Bobo about 15 years ago, but never really got into it enough. I find that being able to actually SEE the moves helps me tremendously in picking up the nuances of a move. I do intend to pick up DVD#3, but as I have purchased about 8 in the past three weeks so far, I have to give my credit card a break or it will melt. I am into card magic a lot more, but am thinking that the coins really have their own little thing going for them, and they are easy to practice. What general TYPES of sleights should I be picking up? For example, a vanish, a steal, a couple of palms, and a pass? That's what I'm looking for. I figure I'll learn a few moves so I can get into some basic routines, and then work more sleights in. |

The longer I have been doing coin magic the more I love to go back to the basics.
Doctor R's Encyclopedia is one of the view DVD's I have. As one who is still growing up in books and manuscripts I do find value in seeing and reading. Your list of a vanish, a steal, a couple of palms, and a pass, are great. Finding your character as a presenter is just as important. The old and the new go great together. Enjoy your journey. Harris

Ok I don't want to make a new topic so I'm gonna ressurect this, and for a good reason I think.
OK these has got to be one of the most underestimated series on Coin Magic. I have DVD's from Michael Ammar, David Roth, Jay Sankey, you name it... Dno't get me wrong these are great DVDs. But I'm dissapointed because everytime one asks for a source on coin magic, everybody references Bobo's or Roth's material (which are fantastic of course) but nobody evers mentions encyclopedia of coin sleights. These are highly professional DVDs, Michael's technique is really good. What absolutely shines about these DVDs though is the level of teaching which is the absolute best of any coin magic DVDs I've ever owned. Every move is described in laser cut clear instructions, broken down to distinct steps. This is the real power of these dvds, the teaching is crystal clear and there is a TON of material to keep you busy for years to come. The only omission is classic false transfers (Classic palm vanish, finger palm vanish etc). It beats the heck out of me why these moves weren't included as they wouldn't add more than 10 min to the DVDs and they would make them more complete. Still, there is a TON of material there, no routines but one of the most comprehensive source of sleights as it's intended to be. |

Hey Doc, just wanted you to know that 3 of my favorites from you are all the ROPS moves, your purse palm subtley, and their was a really interestingly simple yet very effective click pass. I wish I could make the trip and find the time to attend those wonderful seminars again, but...I'm fortunate to make it to the very 1st one. Great...., now I gotta go through your DVDs again to find some more gems. LoL. Thanks Doc!
One for the money...., 2 for a pass..., 3 for a Fly..., and 4 for matrix!
