I hope someone could help me out...

I am doing the pyro work for a tour and they want repeatable flame burts, like those seen at opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics. I cant use the standard fireball generators we use in special effects.

I know the unit looks more or less like an ATA case with the flame coming from top.

The problem is, I don't know what the English name for the unit is so maybe someone could tell me...I googled for everything I could think of and only found the standard single-use devices I have used for ages and they wont work in this case. So, what is the unit called in English?

MV...
hey how ya been?
Most people just call them flame throwers or flame cannons. Here is one site that has them.

I assume you are talking about propane fueled flames that can repeat.

Also, getting ahold of Steve Zigmont would not be a bad idea either.

Let us know how it turns out.

An important note about the use of propane fueled flame projectors is that throughout North America regional laws are slowly banning the use of propane TANKS indoors.

Note that this means you can still use the projector, but that the tank will have to sit outside.
This may, or may not be a problem, but I suspect it will in fact be a problem for some shows that are unprepared for the outcome of such an inspection order.

We have recently seen propane fueled flame projectors have to be cut from a rock show because the show couldn't supply enough pressure hose to get inside the building from the tank, now located outside the building.

It's important to realise that this applies to the actual tank of propane only, and not the effect itself.

You might want to check regional and local bylaws where your tour will be taking you.

Hey Kevin! Been good, busy as heck, will drop you a PM tonite or tomorrow morning so we can catch up.

Now why didn't I think of Steve...good point!

I was hoping there was a ready-made unit I could just rent in numbers and save me a lot of hassle. All the units I have access to are...well, not excactly prom queens of such devices-approved and certified naturally but not pretty to look at and not awfully compact either-they're made to make flames, not to be looked at! A friend has two smaller custom made units and we will try them out and see what can we do.

Silverking I really appreciate your advice. But I am in Finland so what you wrote really doesn't apply in this case but thanks so much for taking the time to write it!

Thanks Fitz!

Silverking, here the law is the same everywhere, there's no regional laws and regulations about these things, which makes this line of work so much easier-no matter where I go, my lisence is always valid.
