I have a book out called The Black School. It's been around for a while with over 50 routines in it and all that, and is currently a softcover book.
For you guys getting into magic and mentalism, do you prefer softcover? Hardcover? Or doesn't matter?

Usually I prefer hardcover for the durability aspect. I consider myself a quasi-collector and don't resell my books. If I really want the material or the book is out of print, I don't care if it soft or hard.

Actually, it depends on wich books! If you get a soft cover edition of Modern Coin Magic by JB Bobo, you are getting only part of what you would have in the hardcover edition ( the hard cover edition has a few chapters that are not in the soft cover version, and those missing chapters are very good!).

The Black School is a perfect bound softcover of great quality. I also don't resell my books and prefer hardcover, though the softcovers are easier to carry around and study.
The hardcover Black School with a wrap-around jacket would include the same content. I have no plans at this time to include any more material as I enjoy having the ebooks on my website available as well.

Personally if it is a book I need to work from I would rather it be a soft spiral bound volume. Makes it easier. Best,
