Hi Everyone
I am preparing for a contest act...I need a 36" silk to fly into the side of the stage when I let go of the silk. Understand John's Hummingbird Reel & Fukai (Japan) version) does this. But Fukai's Japan can only works with 12" silk...but NOT 36" silk...though is Japanese silk-is light...Fukai's version can only works well with 12"...36" silk, it has no strength. Hence I am wondering if John's Hummingbird Reel can do this...I have e-mail to him, still waiting for an answer...if can't... is there any version on the market can accomplise with a 36" silk...though I can custom made one in eletronic shop with a Bigger Motor & torque...buy maybe there is a magic device out there I can buy so I can save the trouble of seeking electrician for help. btw, I have read about the product: Python Pull (from Low to Super strength)...btw, is the rell thread slightly invisble from stage, or is thick cord...etc.? Thanks for any input Warmest Regards dove-boy |

Hey Dove-Boy,
I've had some luck using John Kennedys Jump! effect to have a large silk fly across a stage. Its electronic component means that it works with a timed delay activated with a pressure switch. So you can trigger it and keep your hands free for other things. It worked really well for me.

Doveboy - my experience with the Hummingbird reel is that it, too, needs a small/light silk to work correctly.
In my opinion, it will not manage a 36" silk in any way. Perhaps others have a different experience. Best of Dave

Do it the old fashion way - use an offstage assistant.

Why not use a sandbag weight tied to the silk and fed over something up high. Have another thread that is the release - cut or burn it and the weight falls. The sand will be silent (releatively) and the silk will follow the thread.
Hope this helps... Scott Compton

Kregg,
You're making too much sense! Your system always works. People like gimmicks and loss of control. Then they have to believe in magic! I've often wondered if a commercial bank isn't just an expensive way to get the time and temperature. (I do wish they were as accurate as the one on the dash of my car.) Enjoy!
