I saw a pack of Bikes recently with info. on it referring to the Bicycle Vintage Design Series. They are (or were?) reproducing some of the classic older backs on their cards (regular faces). There was a reference to go to USPCC web site for more info, but when I checked I could find no info. Does anyone know if these cards are currently being produced or are they out of production?
Thanks! |

Are you refering to Bicycle LEAGUE back decks? Or am I mistaken...
Thanks, Tanner |

No, these were a different style back (I don't know what it is called).

USPCC will be re-releasing the "Safety Back" any day now, and the "Racer Back" in the fall.
There's a .pdf file on their website which contains their entire catalog, the reference to these two backs is there. A "vintage" deck with these back designs could go for between 50 and 100 bucks, maybe more if they were unopened, so these re-releases represent good value if you fancy collecting Bikes. I don't see the Safety backs on their website yet, although the catalog says they will be released in March, 2006. |

Thanks Silverking! Any idea if this is the first release in the vintage design series or have their been others?

Looking at the images on one of the auctions for the decks, the back of the box identifies the Safety backs as "Limited Edition #3". I think that suggests strongly that there have been two others already. I know that the Racer backs are being released in the fall, but that leaves one more. Anyone have any guesses?
Has anyone found a retailer carrying these yet? I've been checking Target, as they've been the most up-to-date with the different fashion/pastel decks and such, but I haven't seen them there yet. George |

Remember though that there are always various "vintage" Bike back designs available, but that they're often difficult, if not iimpossible to get your hands on. You can always get the League backs. You can almost always get the Eagle backs on the Spades decks of Bikes. The Racer backs have actually already been out on double packs of Pinochole decks, and are sometimes available. Two resources that might be of interest to you are Jason England and Nathan Becker's web site with the most complete, and accurate "library" of cards I've yet found. http://www.nls.physics.ucsb.edu/~nathanb/cards/ Jason's web site is priceless for card collectors. Also, for some hard to get Bicycle cards, you can look at "Full Boat Dealer" over at our favorite auction site. I buy from Full Boat often, and they're great. Cheers |

This UK site has Cupid Backs, Safety Backs (under "New lines just in"), Thistle Backs, Tangent Backs and Fan Backs. They all look very nice. I especially like the Fan Back, which I haven't seen on any other site. In case of a stampede, please save me a red Fan Back deck However... I think these reissue decks ALL come with clear cellophane or plastic wrapping, which is a huge disappointment! The box art is half the enjoyment. There is always one thing wrong. Life is like that.

My "Vintage Design" decks came in card boxes. They aren't replicas of the boxes that the cards originally came in, but they do have ~some~ of the backs on them.
