Hello all, I hope you are well.
I'm considering moving to Leeds later this year and would like to know if any performers rated the city and it's immediate surroundings for performance opportunities. I'd really like to start going semi-pro by next year, so what do you think of the scene in Leeds? Thanks a lot for ANY replies, Tom. |

I'm unaware of any "Magic scene" in or around Leeds..however..as a place to live it is probably the most up and coming City in the UK..and of course we will have a Premiership Football Team next season LoL !!
If you are looking for somewhere to live then "The Golden Triangle" ..within Leeds/York/ Harrogate to the North of the City is the area..it is of course expensive. I've lived in Wetherby for 23 years now and prices have shot up..I paid £68K for my place when I got it..I would want £500k tomorrow. Howard |

Thanks for the speedy reply, Howard. Perhaps 'the scene' wasn't the best phrase, I just meant to ask about the frequency of employment that someone living in the Leeds area might enjoy, the possible venues for staging performances and the quality/quantity of agents.
Thanks again, Tom. |

Hello again Tom,
Seriously, I know Leeds very well having lived there for many years, if you would like any advice about specific areas (price, culture, landscape etc) PM me. If I were to move back there, I would be looking at areas just outside Leeds, Saltaire and Baildon are very nicely situated for Leeds, Bradford, Keighley, Ilkley, Halifax etc. You would also be a minutes stroll from the moors. All the best, Corona |

I appreciate the offer to PM you for any help, I'll take you up on that soon, no doubt. Thanks again to you all, Tom. |

Why not try table hopping in one of the million bars in the town centre? It's a lot more of a receptive place than London and mid-week their are countelss bars to try. I would suggest 'Revolution' as a starting point - they were pretty receptive to me when I was there.
There is also 'Doctor Wus' - a bar on the calls that has a small stage where you could put a midweek show if they'd let you (and I have a feeling they might). There are plenty student bars and the hotel bar/restuarant that might be keen too. PM me if you perform anywhere and if I'm in town you'l have at least one spectator. Good Luck! |

Good thing about Leeds is it's always changing so fast that there are new opportunities cropping up all the time. There's a really vibrant DIY scene in terms of venues being cool about you putting on your own events, and there are new bars and restaurants popping up all the time for table hopping opportunities if that's your bag.
Check out http://www.cabaretheaven.co.uk for an example of a Leeds night out. Hope you decide to make the move and join the scene.

Thanks very much Shadowrunner and yaquensis, one of the things I like about Leeds is that is is very progressive and ever-changing - I think it's an exciting city.
Cheers for all your input, much appreciated, Tom. |
