I remember now that there was an ad on the back of a MAGIC issue several years back for a Rudy Coby comic book. I spent quite some time looking for it, but it appears that the comic and its creator have simply disappeared.

I found his website.
http://www.bobself.com/rudycoby/home.html It shows some of the comic books but it doesn't really mention much of anything else. His first TV special was great.

You guys are hilarious. I talked to Rudy recently via email. Last I heard he is alive and well, touring in Europe and loving life. And is still doing magic.
Hope this helps. |

A few years ago, I had the privilege of spending an entire day hanging out with Rudy. I was involved with the same company that published his comic book. We were rummaging through the storage warehouse containing all the props for the SPAWN Movie.
It was an amazing day watching the way this man's mind worked as he fumbled around with all the props creating one brilliant idea after another. My point is there is no way a man, this brilliant man, would be sitting home waiting for the phone to ring. Of course he's working! Let's keep the faith in the TRUE creators and innovators of Magic!

I liked his specials to an extent, but at the same time I'd say less than professional.

Debaser, are you serious?!! Less than professional? Man, would I like to see your act! Rudy is a true innovator of magic and his show is packed with fresh approaches and clever designs.
He is everything a pro should be and then some. If his cartoonish style is not for you, I can understand. However, I think Rudy is simply ORIGINAL compared to what I see in Vegas at times, as well as WGM TV specials. Don't take this as a reaming but rather my opinion which, we both clearly have the rights to our own. Besides, Rudy is simply a COOL guy as well! Chance

Together with Ali Bongo, Rudy Coby changed my concept of what magic is all about. I think that the same happened to many others. His 4-legged act is pure genius, especially when one considers its age. I read the first chapter of his lecture notes, about the extreme conditions during his beginnings and the way he topped a magic comedy contest. I would really love to acquire the full lecture notes.

It had variety, it had the theme of the assistant's legs being cut off, Rudy and chums being shrunk down to, them having to restore themselves, putting the legs back on, the world's most dangerous card trick. It all made sense, the set was fabulous. |

Well I have to say this about Rudy - my little girl is 10, and out of all magicians, he’s the one she remembers the most, so I'd say he's an all ages pleaser, young and old. So wish he'd come back this way again to perform, I'd love to take my daughter to see him in person.

Grew up near one of the greatest minds in magic the late Stewart James, in a town called Wallaceburg just 15 mins from Courtright where James could be found, time and time again he would inspire me to always be creative and just love all magic.

Rudy is great. I miss seeing him on stuff. I hope things are working out for him.
His booklet "How to Be a Professional Magician (or just look like one)" should be required reading for anyone who wants to perform magic in front of others for money. |
