All I can say is "WOW"!
I ordered this a few weeks ago, and it took forever to get here. But, when it did, I read the entire thing in one setting! And I am re-reading it now, more slowly, actually studying it. I never really saw myself as a "silly" magician, based on the description I was getting from others. But, David Kaye cleared it up for me. How awesome this could be!!!!! Of course there were a couple of items in the book that I dis-agreed with, but thank goodness we are not all exactly the same. Over all, the book amazed me, and made me realize that silly does not equal stupid. Thanks to those who recomended this awesom tool! Mike

I would agree that this is indeed a book that deserves further attention and study. Not all of the routines/bits are for everyone but don't let it put you off. I recently saw Silly Billy lecture and he was very very good. The biggest compliment is of course my kids watching the Kidabra DVD and seeing him in action. My four year old son cracks up with the silly wand bits which are "I'm a big magician and so I get the big magic wand. You're a little magician and so you get the little magic wand." He thinks it's funny to act this out without even having the silly wands. Needless to say I had to order the wands (which I didn't at the lecture because it was a zoo and everything sold out)just because I could see how powerful this was.

I was fortunate enough to see David's lecture and be the only one in the audience who brought a child. Well, I can tell you that my eight year old daughter had the time of her life, being the subject of every one of David's demonstrations. The book is certainly terrific and seeing his theory and philosophy in action lent even greater impact to his writing. That night, watching the KIDabra halloween performance with my three children, was one of the richest experiences I'd had in a very long while. My daughter shrieked with delight, reminded of her experiences earlier that day while my other, younger daughter laughed and laughed, and my son (the youngest of the bunch) kept chanting for me to play it "Again, daddy. Again."

Seriously Silly is a great book. I use it as a reference book a lot. This is one of the best books on performing for kids ever. Cheers to David Kaye for another good book.

I love David's book, "Seriously Silly"! I've adapted several of the routines to my character and the laughter is music to my ears. If you don't already own this book, you should "Seriously Consider It!" Who coulda guessed that a New Yorker could be so instrumental north of Florida!! When can we expect the DVD, David?!
Kudos! Skip

This is a very thoughtful book. A lot of good stuff worthy of keeping in mind when working your gigs. It's going to be a great reference text over time.

"Seriously Silly" is on my wish list. I've heard so many positive comments about it. It will most likely be the next magic book I purchase.

It's great. I've probably sold more of that book than any other.
I've adopted much of its thoughts to adult magic as well. And espeically for shows that have a good mix of adult and kids. frank

I don't have Seriously Silly, but I do have all of David Kaye's other books which are tremendous resources for Kid show magicians.
From the description of the book, it looks like it is a compilation of his many previous books. Does anyone know if any new material is covered that is not in David Kaye's other books and what percentage of the book is new material?

Most the material is from his other books (minus the marketing booklet sadly) just cleaned up a little. I would say 80% you likely have already. For those looking to get it the best price I've seen is at The Ambitious Card. They had a good price.

I spoke to David Kaye and asked him about how much of Seriously Silly is new information. He said that the three original sets of lecture notes were doubled in length and included. Then he added 7 routines which were never published before, a chapter on the history of children's magic, and several essays - also never published before. So it looks like about 30% is from the original notes. You can buy it on his site too - http://www.sillymagic.com

I truly believe this book will become a "classic" in magic. There is so much good information throughout. It's the type of book you'll want to re-read on a yearly basis to refresh yourself. Thank you David Kaye!
May the magic be with you!

The book gives routines like the silk opener (three versions for different age groups), mismade flag, crystal tube, etc. Don't remember 'em all. More importantly he teaches how to develope your own routine.

Simply the best single resource on children's magic available. Whilst David Kaye obviously understands the psycology of children at different ages the book, unlike others, remains very practical.

The routines, as David refers to them:
Vanishing a silk (Three routines: 3-6yrs; 7-9yrs; 10-13yrs) The Bread Trick ( a silk color change with a change bag) Crystal Silk Tube Presidential Mis-Made Flag Vanishing Coke Baba Milk Pitcher Plus The World's Best Coloring Book Routine As mentioned earlier, the routines account for a very small portion of the book. It's a wealth of advice on HOW to do magic for kids (rather than WHAT to do).
