Thanks Billy. I think the people here on the Café are extremely generous with their time and expertise. We can only progress if we are willing to listen to both sides - and not the side that makes us feel good! The advice about my website has been invaluable and I thank everyone who has helped me along the way. The advice has been priceless!

You recieved excellent advice from everyone. I agreed with every comment made in this thread. Everyone who answered here really knows what they're talking about but you where defensive to the point of aggresion. Andy in particular gave you really great advice. He knows his stuff. If your worried about his gentle constructive critism of your site you ain't seen nothing yet. Andy had a look at my site a while ago and because I'm on friendly terms with him he didn't hold back at all. Of course I was a little narked because I put so much work into the site but I was able to recognise that for what it was; constructive critism and took onboard a lot of what he said and changed my site accordingly. Let me tell you this, after that my web enquiries almost doubled! All the best, George |

But here's some feedback anyway. Don't read it if you don't want. It's OK. But you might want to hold off on the caps button on your keyboard. Throughout your site, there are words that are Capitalised for absolutely No Reason. It's quite a Common Error, so don't feel Too Bad about it. While, to me, it's not as bad as Mis-spelling words, or bad Punctuation I think it adversely affects the professional look of your Site. (I have done it in This Paragraph to show you what I mean. If it hasn't struck you as odd, then I suggest asking a friend in publishing or even a professional proof-reader for some advice.) Oh, and...chill out, man. I hope you don't seek opinions about your act only from other magicians, for that is the equivalent of your defensive stance on your website! |

If you weant a decent website, pay a professional designer to do it.
You simply cannot pass off a home made website as a professional one. Though many try, bless em! Gary (Website Designer) |

I'm a computer programmer, a website designer, a professional magician, a sales consultant, I'm a doctor, a lawyer, a movie star, I'm an astronaut and I own this bar.
Can I comment now? Actually, I'm a total of about one and three-eighths of those. (Do you KNOW how hard it is to be three-eighths of an astronaut? ) Anyway, just one comment on something I find confusing. On your contact page is the Magic Castle logo. On your bio page, you list memberships in IBM and FCM. So are you a Magic Castle member or not? And do you have permission to use their copyrighted logo? And -- and -- are these the kind of questions a Christian magician wants to raise in the minds of potential customers? Not an accusation of any kind. Just food for thought. Posted: Mar 30, 2006 12:20pm The OP has replaced the logo I mentioned above with a photograph (presumably one to which he owns the rights). It's a photo of the Magic Castle, and I still don't know what that has to do with a magician in Port Huron, Michigan, or whether anyone looking to book him will know what it is, but I suppose he's not any more interested in this comment than any of the others above. I just wanted to mention it in case anyone wonders what I was raving about. |

I do have the rights to the Magic Castle photo. I just think it is a really good picture. Please check my site out today as of 1:00 P.M. eastern standard time. If any one else wants to comment feel free. I just want more feedback. And no you do not have to be a professional.

You're asking a wide range of personalities here. Everyone isn't going to be nice or complementary. Feedback means good and bad and if bad we shouldn't have to prove that we know what we are talking about. Just ignore it. You asked. That's the point. Next time you should say: Hey, I made a new web site if you have something nice to say about it post it here. If you have a critique I don't wanna hear it so keep it to yourself. I only want to hear the good stuff. ) Really, you aren't making sense. No one knows how many years you've been performing or how good you are. It doesn't matter to anyone here. You asked us to look at your website and give feedback. Now we are the bad guys? We don't have anything to prove do we? Seriously, your site looks ok. It's a little dark for me and the text is rather small and it looks like a template based design. I am a web designer - I WAS really, but I wasn't very good at so I only host sites now. Good luck. Chill. John |

John, I appreciate your comments. Those that have commented before I have viewed their websites and all of them but one was good. I do not mind people speaking negative. That is fine but be complete in your sentences. I have been performing over 20 years and I do well. This is my only job and I support myself and my wife and we live comfortably. Thanks to all keep the comments coming.

Is your main thing Gospel magic? I guess that would explain the anger. I ask because your kids show doesn't warrant its own button. I think the site is too dark, purple on black is difficult to read, font size is smallish. If the goal is to attract business I would think, unless you are morose, and you seem to be, that bright colors would be more 'exciting' to the viewer. Another thing, the photos are small and not real clear and some seem rather out of place. I'm sure you are thrilled to be next to Billy McComb and that lil' heater Shannon from Ohio but do you think a mother looking for a magician to perform for her seven year olds birthday with an inquisition theme really cares? Since I know people in Michigan who compete with you let me just say it is a totally killer site and you shouldn't change a thing...you rock dude!

I agree 100% with Steve V that Shana from Ohio is a li'l heater.

At the last A1 convention (and those of you that attended likely remember this) there was a guy who always brought his daughter to the convention. Since they went a couple years w/out one the ol' magicians had not seen her since she was around 13 or 14. Well, she was 17 and blossomed like they are suppose to in a perfect world and she was very beautiful. All three days she kept being stopped by these guys who wanted to get their picture taken with her! I wonder how many sites have photos of 70 year olds grinning with their arm around this lovely lass.
