What is a good material for a banner? Canvas? Any suggestions on a source?

Canvas is the best, that's for sure. It is sold as "cotton duck." You can get it at any fabric store, unless you want it in giant widths. The tough part is getting it sewn.

It's hard to resist posting this list of suppliers:

If you are making your own, cobblers are usually handy for doing the sewing work.

However, if you decide to have one done for you then I can recommend Toni-Lee, who does fantastic work. The website is here: http://www.sideshowbanners.com/

I will see if I can dig out a photo of my Toni-Lee banner for you. Its a true piece of art!

Here's a small banner on canvas. It is meant to be displayed on the front of the performer's table. The banner is 20" x 32".

For a banner this size, the mounting is two 1" dowel rods glued to the top and bottom of the banner. The sewing is a simple hem on the sides using seam binding.

For large banners, the D-rings sewn to the banner are best; another solution is to have fabric flaps at the top and bottom that a pipe can be pushed through.

Dear Doug,

Thank you very much! It means a great deal coming from you, who have a unique eye (no one on earth would dispute that) and an understanding of the business that goes all the way down to the sawdust under your boots.

Yours,

Paul

I really like that, the color scheme is great.

Do you think you could PM your price range?

Check Mark Frierson http://www.magicofchristopher.com for superior banners. He understands what the history of the sideshow is all about. This guy's banners are the best.....hands down.
