I'm recently trying to get more into coin magic. I think one of the draws for a spectator is that they could have the opportunity to handle some foreign currency, something that, for some reason, always interests people. I was wondering what are some coins you use with a Kenndy [. Obviously not an English penny. I have a Chinese coin and an old French coin. I've seen Australian pennies. Is there anything else and where would I find it?

There is an Australian coin that I am quite fond of. I can't remember the name, but I think it could be a 20 dollar coin. Maybe not though. Anyway, it has a Duck Billed Platipus on one side with wave effects around him as if he were swimming in water. There is a 20 on the upper side of the picture. I have only owned one of these coins. I looked them up on Ebay and they were selling for a pretty good price. They are just a little smaller than an American half dollar.

There are some pricy coins from Australia that are unusual. Each year there is a silver coin to match the Chineese year. Of course since Lucy has live unicorns in her stage show, she uses the ones from the year of the horse.

Use ancient roman coins.

For a routine that uses this technique, have a look at Sounds Familiar, by Doug Brewer in his Unexpected Visitor book and DVD

The platypus is on the Australian 20 cent piece. Shouldn't cost all that much since they are in current circulation.

I live in Australia- if you need 20 cent coins- contact me. Or the octagonal 50 cent coins. Note- there is no coin in circulation in AU based on the chinese year... |
