Danny,
I think there is much truth in your advice. What you say not only rings true for children, but for attracting women. A sense of humor goes very, very, very far. But, unfortunately, not everyone is born with this talent. And so men use other forms of meeting women, although not as effectively. And perhaps some magi's use props with children, although not as effectively either. But at least everyone is trying their best to plant more smiles. And many, dare say, might even knock the roof off with props! And of course there is nothing wrong with that at all P.S. Hope none of this is taken wrongy.

Opus,
I enjoyed reading your balloon effect. Children go crazy with escaping balloons - and you do this repeatedly! You might have a winner on your hands!

I would strongly recommend some of the colorful silk magic of Tim Sonnefelt and/or Barry Mitchell. These two (who partner and seem to have a similar view of presenting colorful tricks with storylines and sometimes morals - but not heavy-handed preaching), have some great items. I have used Sonnefelt's Tortoise and Hare (not cheap at about $100 for the silks, production tube, demo DVD, routine and an additional prop or two), but it gets a great response and adds great color to the show for younger kiddies, who need to connect more in a sensory way. For older kids, they also have some items (like Mitchell's clever version of the "light heavy box"), but I think their props and stories are best suited for the under-seven set.
