I went and looked at a couple of the ads. Man...dragging around fish and water? Can fish take Summer heat in a small space? Just off the top of my head I would make it part of a longer routine. Since you would want the fish production I would show the punkies a joke they can play and show them the ol' piece of carrot that can look like a fish if you wiggle it and then you can eat it and the parents will think it is a real fish. Make it look like a reg. chunk of carrot because you want the kids NOT to think it looks like a fish but a carrot. This way you get them fired up because they don't think it looks fishy enough. Make up and down motions and ask if it looks like a fish yet, they should say 'noooo!'. Get a second piece of carrot and ask if it looks like a school of fish, again they will say 'noooo!', act upset. As a sudden inspiration ask them if you put it in the clear tube that it would look like the fish were in an aquarium. This should seem funny to the kids. You then put the cover on and tell them that since they can't see them that NOW they will believe they are real fish. The kids will find this funny and again protest. Give up in rejection and say "you are right, they'll never look like real fish" and that is when you pull off the outer cylinder and the fish are there....tada.... Forget that freakin' "Finding Nemo" suggestion, to quick and just doesn't entertain. Every kid will tell you that it isn't a Nemo Fish but is a gold fish anyway.

Looking at it, I might do it as a musical opener, take an orange silk (if using an orange fish), draw a simple fish-figure on the silk with a marker, swim around the room with it a little, show everyone that there is clearly nothing more to it, squeeze the silk a little and allow water to shake out onto the crowd! (soft thumbtip with wet sponge) place silk in the clear tube, cover it, magic motion and wala! Live fishy.
If doing a bday party, clear with the mom if the kid can have the fish or not, then it could be a magical LIVE giveaway. Cost about $2 for the silk & $2 for the fish. |
