Chris,
Thanks for the kind words, but who could live up to that description? I just hope that other magicians will find something useful in my material and thinking. Tonight, I'm providing a pre-release copy of the DVDs to a magician friend whom I've known for a long time and who has seen me perform some of the effects in real life for laymen. I've asked him to post an honest review on the Café and expect that he'll get to that possibly Sunday. Yup, I'll have a limited number and you can order directly from me, but I won't have my copies until the middle of April. Larry |

I've had the opportunity to preview Vol. 1 so far and it was superb. HIGHLY recommended. Larry really has thought out every detail and truly tips his mitt both in material, scripting, etc. STRONGLY recommended.

Thanks for the positive words.
Mac, on volume #1, four of the effects can be performed without a table and four of the effects require a table. On volume #2, five of the effects can be performed without a table and three of the effects require a table. In addition to the effects, the DVDs contain a detailed discussion of the tools that I consider to be vital to top-notch professional performance, including motivation, scripting, and rehearsal. Each DVD has "Bonus Essays". This is what I'm most interested in. Anyone that has read Larry's posts in the Café or have been blessed to have him PM or e-mail advice,, knows what I'm talking about. There are two kinds of posts: the ones that show his quick wit that make you laugh like you're in a comedy club and the ones where he offer advice that turns ordinary "tricks" into killer effects.
Here’s what the DVD descriptions say: “Both Volumes 1 & 2 contain essays on Scripting, Motivation and Rehearsal. Larry’s insights are based on performing for thousands of people in his career. He shares his thoughts in extreme detail. This is extremely valuable information that’s usually glossed over!”

Mac, I'm glad that I could help. I'm truly interested in you making an informed decision. And by the way, speaking of stand-up, even the effects that require a table or other working surface can be performed standing--none of the effects require that the magician be seated (I never perform that way).
Take care, Larry |

I have been eagerly awaiting my set since Larry first hinted about the release. Seeing as how my schedule has never allowed me to hook up with him my last 3 times to DC, it may be the closest I come to enjoying his stuff for a while. (But on my next overnight trip to DC Larry, we have a date.....or something to that effect)
I will be posting my review, but if Larry would like to send me an advanced copy, I would gladly trade him for the old World Magic Summit video of him that he has been begging me to burn. |

I've been looking forward to these, too. Larry's one of the most knowledgeable and experienced magicians on this site. His advice is always excellent. I'm sure that these DVDs will be essential viewing. Congratulations, Larry!

Larry, I notice you don't seem to have a strong web presence...I couldn't find your website. Since I'm not familiar with your work, I'd appreciate a little background detail on the kind of fields you specialise in, past clients etc.
Many thanks David |

And a lot of them have been useful, constructive posts Chris.
All the work Larry Davidson did at the Brooke Inn of magic [with people of the caliber of John Kennedy]says a lot. There are some fantastic magicians websites with the most amazing graphics...and then you see their show!......

Thanks for the kind words gents!
Daffydoug, my face simply contorted that way after shooting video for a week. D J Hawkins, you won't find a WEB site because I'm a part-time pro and never saw a need for one. My gigs are booked through agents, as a result of people seeing me perform at other gigs, as a result of people seeing me perform at restaurants, through word of mouth, etc. My specialty is close-up and parlour with a humorous performing persona--I don't do stage. Clients include the White House, IBM, Hughes Aircraft, Dominion Steel, American University, Carol Buddig meat products, Zyzyx, Amity, TBI, The Magic of New Orleans (restaurant), Wednesday Night Wizardry (with Bob Sheets, Alain Nu, Mark Phillips, and Brian Curry), Brook Farm Inn of Magic (back in the day), private parties, etc. Other magicians who are well known to many other magicians and who can tell you about my work include the Wednesday Night Wizardry guys I mentioned above, Bob Kohler (obviously), Al Cohen, Glenn Farrington, Tim Conover, Scotty York, John Kennedy, Harvey Rosenthal, and Bill Wells. I'm published in The Minotaur (a coin production which is part of the Vapor effect found on Volume 2 of my DVDs) and Apocolypse (a variation of the Square Dance effect found on volume #1 of my DVDs). Chris Jones, I post a lot on the Café because I have a lot of opinions and it's been my way of sharing my thoughts and experiences with others. I'd be happy to answer any other questions! Best, Larry Posted: Apr 2, 2006 9:04pm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As I mentioned above, there's a review of a pre-release copy of the DVDs here. I'm glad that you liked the material Joe and thanks for the positive feedback! Larry |

Good on you Larry for releasing your work to us! I applaud all the time and effort this whole project must have taken. I, for one am very much looking forward to learning from you. Please ignore the jealousy and ignorance you will no doubt encounter as part of the release process as no doubt many amongst us will benefit.
Cheers, Al

Thanks Al, I don't expect everyone to love the DVDs just as I don't expect everyone to love any particular product, but I do hope that the vast majority will find some value.
