I have never done this trick for a paying audience but it has always intrigued me. Actually I have never done any tricks for a paying audience.
I really can't give this one away. All I can say is it was in Kabbala. It is a Marlo effect. It was actually in Kabbala two different times with two different handlings. It involves an old well worn deck and a pencil. I can say no more! |

The best coin trick I've learned from a book is "P.D.Q. Coins Across" from Paul Harris' Supermagic book. The only magician I've ever seen do it was the one from whom I learned of it. It looks like magic and the angles are great. Oh, and the best part is that it is no knucklebuster.

A trick I've used quite a bit is "The Substitution Envelope Mystery" on page 143 of the Card Magic of LePaul, one of my favorite books. You get a lot of magic for one basic sleight, and the trick plays big because of the card to envelope finish.

Alright, I'll probably only ever say this one time- but I frankly can't believe that I've never seen anybody perform "Thanks to Hofzinser" by Jerry Sadowitz. It's in his book Cards on the Table. Jerry combined the Everywhere and Nowhere plot, with the card to pocket plot, and the result makes me want to plotz. Sorry for the lame joke. Actually, I realize that other people have used the card to pocket idea in conjunction with the everywhere and nowhere plot, but Jerry has added a major twist that takes this type of effect to new levels.
I seriously doubt that many people are gonna rush out and try to find a routine by a guy with not even a single 4 dvd set to his name. But I still prefer to keep thinking THIS good under some wraps. |

Not sure as I don't see many other magician's perform. However there is an effect from Peter Duffie's ebook "Card Secrets Unlocked" called "Sly Aces" that I absolutely love. It's a great three phase card trick with a little twisting, a little ambitious and a sandwich kicker to finish it all off.
BTW, do many people do Daley's "Itinerant Pasteboards" from "Stars of Magic"? I don't, but I love the effect and keep meaning to add it to the repetoire.

I'll throw out another one just to keep this interesting thread going - Single Bullet Theory from Smoke and Mirrors. I think everyone but me passed this one by. An impossible production of a giant ball bearing from an empty paper bag. Well, that's not quite right, it's really the transformation of a small ball bearing into a huge one but it plays more like a production- when people get a load of the big ball bearing they completely forget about the little one.. Great misdirection and it blows them away every time. As Bannon said, not many people will chase down the materials to do this one- I did, and I didn't regret it.

How many people perform the 11 card trick? I do the Paul Harris version, but just don't see it on many discussion boards or people coming out with new versions, so I assume not many people do it?
I still do Cards up the sleeve from Henry Hay's Amateur Magacian's Handbook. Must have learned that 15 years ago... |

There's a great little coin production in the quick tricks section of Bobo's Modern Coin Magic. It's called "A coin production from two cards" (or something similarly descriptive) and I absolutely love it. If you've got a coin classic palmed and you do a simple two handed fan and a few swing cuts, there's no way a layperson can fathom where that coin comes from. The book just covers a very efficient way of both showing the two cards while implying that your hands are empty and loading the coin between them. This combined with handling the deck prior to the trick as you would normally (fan, cuts, etc.) makes for a quite surprising production, and I have yet to hear of any mention of it anywhere.

My party piece for the best part of 60 years is Hunter's Impossible Knot. I learnt it from Hugard's Modern Magic Manual. I've never seen anyone else perform it.
