What are your thoughts on services like Philip and Henry?
What are some pros and cons of working for them? I've only had limited experience with them... When you're done with P&H, then we can move on to Gigmasters, PartyPop, and Direct Catering. Anybody getting work from these operations? What do you like/dislike? Any feedback would be awesome! |

I have had no problem with P&H but others might have. I'm not sure, I am looking for info on GIGMASTERS... any thoughts on that?

I am NOT a “Birthday Party Magician” at all, but I DO know a professional success solution when I see one!
You may wish to check into Birthday Party Magician's as a way of kicking your business up a notch… as a successful business model… KILLER! Please don’t take my word for it, “THINK and grow Rich” for yourself by doing your own due diligence and check this out for yourself! The killer news is, at Birthday Party Magician's , you get virtually unlimited marketing and success education and support while this Birthday Party Magician’s Site does ALL the work, pays for ALL of the advertising and then sends you all the “qualified” paid shows for you to accept or decline at YOUR leisure! – FOUND MONEY! You read that RIGHT… you do NOTHING but “ACCEPT” the paid show, do the gig and then cash the check! (actually, you don’t even need to do THAT!) It doesn’t get more success-smart and simple than that! Really, just see for YOURSELF! I was incredibly IMPRESSED, and if you are indeed smart, so will YOU be! I am at your service and In HIS Service, Deano <><

I get a lot of jobs from PartyPop.com.
People are very computer savvy these days and find PartyPop.com when they are using a search engine to find magicians, etc. And I found out that a lot of people know of PartyPop.com and use them all the time for events. So they get my vote.

I think it depends on where you live. Partypop, directcatering, and philip and henry have given me nothing. Philip and Henry used to call me when I did shows for dirt cheap. As soon as they found somebody cheaper they never called me again. That being said, some people love Philip and Henry. In the long run I was going in a different direction and they no longer fit my business plan. Direct Catering has not offered one job, nor has partypop; so I don't use any of them anymore. I have my own methods for generating gigs that work for me in my niche and region. And in the past 5 years, about 98% of all my jobs come from the yellow pages and word of mouth (vast majority from word of mouth). Less than 1% (2 jobs in 5 years) came from the internet.
From what I've read and heard and validated through my own experience, the internet is not much use for booking jobs. NUCINUD obviously has a different view in New York as opposed to the suburban areas of Los Angeles. You may find something different than either of us. One thing I have learned...marketing is very regional. What works in one are may or may not in another.

If you're in Chicago, you can make a living off the leads I get from Direct Catering. I'm just too far away to make the trek for a birthday show. On occasion a corporate show will pop up there, but they get snapped up like free dollars in a soup line -- some guys must live online! The flip side is you don't spend a penny there unless you choose to buy a lead, which is pre-qualified. At $3-$5 per, it's a good deal; I can't think of a lead generation tool that's more cost-effective.
I've found Party Pop to be more of a poop than a pop. |

Steve,
I live in the suburbs of New York. I have tried lots of ways to get jobs, and I keep a track record. I have spent money on local ads and other internet agents. I guess I am lucky with PartyPop. People call me direct from the listing unlike some other internet sites where you have to bid on the gig. I just wish everyone success. If what you do works, great. I find success is a combination of things. Best, Harry

Be careful of agents. Some will charge the client a good fee, and give the performer less than half.

If you would like to see what the likes of Philip and Henry are, then check out this thread: Philip and Henry Productions
My advice would be not to work for them. All the best, Rob |

Thanks Tim, I will check it out.
Best agent story: The devil walks into an agents office holding three contracts. The devil says to the agent, "Here are the contracts for Madonna, Halle Berry and Angelina Jolie." The agent asks, What do I need to do to get them?" The devil says, "All you have to do is kill your Mother." The agent thinks for a few minutes and asks, "What's the catch?"

I've done maybe a dozen shows for Philip and Henry over the years. They have been completely straightforward with me, and I've always been paid promptly. As you will see on the other Philip and Henry Productions thread, some magicians (myself included) have taken issue with high commissions and the bidding process. Nevertheless, I continue to work for them when I can get paid an amount I'm happy with.
I should also add that the last show I did for Philip and Henry, they actually took a small financial loss after paying my fee, because they gave a special price to a client with a limited budget for a community show. So there you go.

One of the shows they may have taken a loss on, was because they had to beg for a week to get someone to go and do the show after taking the booking in the first place. Maybe they should have their talent lined up first before agreeing to a contract that most wouldn't have accepted at the rate their where offering. I checked out the rates on Philip and Henry's site and $250.00 for a show that was 60+ miles away for 70-80 people is in my opinion a huge bargain and scarcely the going rate.

Greetings, Café
Agents are great. Some can be a pain. Just take an Advil and get rid of the pain. Heheheh Party Pop is a great resource for birthday parties and CORPORATE events. GIGMASTES has a great success story for me. In my opion, THE INTERNET is one of the best marketing tools. LIST yourself in all the phone book listings, local event sites, chamber sites, community sites, etc. etc. Also your local phone book will prove results. Usually it takes about two years listed in the phonebook because some people keep the old one. However with the right ad and answering your phone will create more success. There are many more secrets in marketing I have and many others have used BUT one should accomplish the above first. heeheh WINK.... A combination of these will get your phone ringing. Then it is up to you to SELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.

Too, just a quick reminder for those of you who tuned-in to the "Success Madness Radio Show!" last night... HERE is the link for the free-gift and success book I promised!
http://www.TheDean.net/tim Dig in and enjoy... it covers this whole thing including "Philip & Henry", Direct Catering, GigMasters, Birthday Party Pro and so on. Great read loaded with REAL success insights and experiences! (NOT some cheesy 'sales-letter' either, thinly diguised as a 'report', THIS is a real, content-rich book on success in the birthday party market!) Again, DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT, "Think & Grow Rich!" for yourself and see what there really is. THEN make up your own mind for success! I am at your service and In HIS Service! Deano <><
