This isn't really a trick but occasionaly I have felt like scaring a friend so I take him or her to a bar with candles on the tables.

In the bar I excused myself to the toilet and there i dip my index finger in rubbing alcohol. I quickly go back out to my friend and blow out the nearest candle. Both times i have done this my friend has said; "Why did you do that."

I just shrig my sholders and put my finger in the flame of another candle. My finger sets on fire and i relight the candle with my burning finger. Trust me- its a good effect.

Just dont burn yourself. You can only have your hand flaming for a few seconds before it begins to hurt! Smile

Truly disturbing approach imo.
Any effect where you produce a totally unexpected result that even you seemingly did not prepare for. Simply put, like something went wrong and took a turn for the worse.
Example, right in the middle of stopping your pulse, faint. Just drop to the ground. [Be careful where and how you fall of course!] You'll get some of the drama DB got from pulling his heart out.
Or cough out blood after doing the razor blade swallowing effect(!).
Careful though, you might induce real panic from the audience members! Smile

Perform at your own risk and discretion. Smile

I scare the HELL out of my audiences with my own Mark of Abigail. If you have my Mind Control video, you know the effect, but not the actual presentation. Smile

Watching a clown at a children's b-day party do Linking Rings with a real nice set of 10in. rings.
"One, two, three separte rings".....*clink* *clank* *clink*

"Hey ho! linked!"

(Audince totally disinterested. B-day boy brooding over number of gifts, a screamin' child insisting he wants to "share" some of the gifts)

*clink *clank!* *clink *clunk!* *clink!*..(those thrasin' rings can get very loud in the wrong hands ya know)

"Hey ho!linked again......!"

(Parent in background spakin' a child that had gotten on everyone's nerves.
No one paying attention at this point.)

*clink* *clank!* *clink!* *clunk!*

Yeah everything about it all was
VERY DISTURBING. Don't want to experience that again.

I agree with Peter about bizarre having a different genre than shock "magic".
I would say any of those prediction illusions, maybe any concerning poltergeists etc.. would be bizarre!

Bill F.--What is a Weird Weekend? Sounds fun!

I hate to be a downer but they ARE just tricks. And an executive assistant is a secretary and a patroleum transport specialist is a gas station attendant. hehehe

Check your local dollar store around halloween. They sometimes will have a "splat" tongue. One made to throw at a flat surface and it will stick.
It is probably the most realistic tongue I have seen as far as it's smooshiness.
I use it all the time for needle through tongue.
1 tongue has gotten me through over 100 performances.
And it costs a buck.

Wow, this is probably one of the best "tricks" I've seen yet! A 3 to 4 year old post resurrected!

Create a 100 per cent dark (seance) room -- 100 per cent dark.

Have sitters remain silent for 90 seconds plus.

Loud noise in vacant part of room.

(Thank you Eugene.)

Yes, Curator. I fully concur. And I am a devotee of the Senator who cruelly used this device. More disturbing than Dr. X's version of Psychic Tic Tac Toe.

However uncharacteristic of me it is to be serious- I would say "Murder by Mail", from Docc Hilford's "Band of the Hand" booklet is a pretty disturbing piece.
Done the right/wrong person (depending on your perspective), or let's just say a gullible person with a conscience, it could leave emotional scarring for life.
I think it's best to come up with something original and really personal though.
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.

As far as emtionaly disturbing, I think Lee Earles "Musing Box" ranks up there (death of a child, contimplation of suicide..)hmm might be why not a lot of people perform it (I do).

Truly a duck from hell. good one Curator! I notice it seems to be the young magicians who are fond of grave yard effects. As I get older, and closer to death, it loses some of its appeal <g>

Are you sure that isn't a small size Swan Boat left over from an Opera by R. Wagner?
