Mikame and lefler are the front runners in my eyes - anyone have experience of both, or some others? I'd love to hear from y'all,
David. |

I have used a makame, and really liked it. It is a white erase board as oppose to a chalk board, however I ahvent used the Lefler but want you to know I really enjoyed using the Mikame Craft one, it is nicely made. I wouldnt use it now as it doesn't fit my style but it certainly has its place.

U.F. Grant usd to put one out. I made made a few and they work well. It is designed that you could do it with a sketchpad and three paperclips as well. It actually could be doing inpromtu with borrowed materials if need be.
THOUGHTfully,

The best version of a No Force Mental Epic trick was Fogels put out by Supreme Magic several decades ago. No special board was needed (but one provided). It is a killer routine and one I am still using today.

Well supreme slate of mind allows the use of different colour markers, and the mikame one does not. Although there is a $100 premium for this luxury. So I am wondering is the different colour markers just an added indulgence for magicians/mentalists in the know? or will the different colour ink subtlety hit home with the laymen audience as well?
RE: NON BOARD EPICS I am really keen to learn about those epic effects which use sketch pads and other similarly "impromptu" appratus - can anyone direct me? KENNEDY: May I ask why you feel the epic style effect no longer suit's your style? I have been considering adding it to my stage act for some time now but have declined up until now for fear of it looking too 'magiciany'. I would love to hear why you have retired it. Also - I would love to buy your board if you're interested in selling it! David. |

Honesty, I'd skip the board and go for non-board - but that's my style - hence why I sold off all my boards - the reason is it does feel a bit too much "Lookee I'm a gimmick" even more than playing cards - when you can do the mental epic with some billet switches, or a variety of other techniques - its just thinking about using a 1-a***d princple - then ask - what is the best way to fry the brains of the audience?
I suppose stage you want people to see the writing - but I think James Biss has a great variation of this in his Ext. Mental book... plus again, its the specs reaction to play up more than the writing being seen by the rest of the audience... having them read out billets etc..... Anyways that's my 2 cents. Other interesting thing to take a look at is X-pert by Neil Tobin.... Also the "non-force mental epic board" like Supreme Slate of Mind is sort of true - but once you find the secret I'll guess now (if you go that route) you'll be selling it at an auction in a while - becuase I found it a bit difficult to justify the "move" when I could resort to way easier and neater 1-a***d principle moves. If you must, buy a large $30 1- force board and then get Osterlind and Banachek's DVD series with the rest of the moolah you would have spent! Bruce

The reason it doesn't suit my style is it looks like a prop and in my shows I like to use objects and properties which are familiar the the audience and my particupants. I don't like to bring any strange "magic" looking props to them, thus it can all be seen to more "real".
I am very minimal, I have a white board, a small table, some envelopes and some pads of paper. It also means should things get lost in transit, I can go to staples and within an hour be ready to go again. Working like this suits me and the way I work and think, it is by no means the "right" way to do things, nor is it the way forward for everyone, it just suits me

What I meant was - get a "classic" "Mental Epic" board - large size for around $30....if you want a board like that at all... than spend $200+ on the "no force method" board which you'll be able to figure out a better way to do.... IMHO
