Hi,
Awhile back I got a nice no-force board that works well. Recently I got a pocket version that come with no instructions. This is a FORCE one and I'm not sure what to force for the last part. Any ideas? This one has One secret piece while the no-force is different. Thanks. Magically, Joseph |

You can force just about anything forceable. A card is common, if not a card, then perhaps a magician's force of some object out of a group of three or so items. You can use a change bag and appear to put a number of different letters from a scrabble set, or slips of paper with different words or names in it, then have them reach in and pull out a forced one.

I would suggest throwing away your mental epic and finding more contemporary ways of revealing predictions. Check out any beginning mentalism book for any way to make revelations without the goofy apparatus. One thought, how about a N***Wri**r?

Strange enough, mentalists consider this a lowly prop...
Laymen still love it. I think the "mental epic" bashing is a little elitist, like the cardmen who look down on simple tricks that DO destroy a lay audience. Anyhow, for the force you could use a psychological one (there's a risk, but I don't mind) or you could use something like Osterlind's handling (with the ultra board). If you use a force and it failed, reveal your predictions backwards. Hope this helps. |

Check Whit Hayden's routine, which someone describes in this forum on another thread (that I can't locate right now!). He ends with a tossed out deck, which makes it look as if he's combined three random predictions in one space. He has the three people who chose cards stand, and as they see their card revealed on the board, they sit down. Very clever, but might not be too visible with your pocket version.

Have a look at "three way test" in the Mark Wilson course.

Here's something I used to do (and now that I am thinking about it, I might do it in a show I have this weekend).
Show up a little early and pay CLOSE attention to what people are saying and listen in for one specific piece of information. I generally wait until I hear a person's name mentioned. Then find some "private time" and prepare the "you-know-what." Then once the show is in full swing, be sure that you get the intended victim on stage and at the proper time, ask him/her to concentrate on their own name. The rest of what you do is totally up to you. |

What about the EPIcard prediction from trickshop? This doesn't require much apparatus.

Years ago I got a mini mental-epic board with a wax pencil. It is white plastic like a Tenyo prop with three little slide off doors. There is not much room to write so I just ask for a letter, a number, and have an ESP deck to force the square. You can use a normal deck and force your choice.
Now I'm working on something like the Al Baker 3 billet test, where he uses a hat. I paperclip the three billets to a 4x6" pad of paper, like the Homicide Book. The three will sit overlapped so it is easy to remove them in the required sequence. J. Manuel
Nothing would get done at all, if man waited so long that no one could find fault with it.

Since my first post, I purchased a nice no force at Stevens' Magic and I do use a pocket version on occasion with my table-hopping. Thanks for all of your responses. Topic is closed on my end here...thanks again.

A few threads away, there has been some discussion of the Time Machine gimmick. This could be the force. The last prediction would just read "My Watch." You could ask for any time of the day and you will have time to set the watch while revealing the first two predictions. Give the credit to Colin Mcleod. He described it using billets, but it will work just as well with Mental Epic. Of course, making it a complete theme would be nice. Ask for a location, any city in the world, then ask for what they are doing there (activity) or what they are eating at a restaurant there, then ask them the time of day they are doing this activity. Tell them to be precise, not half-past, or a quarter-to, but an actual time like 8:47.
I could see how this would kill if presented well. Even aome magicians that know about needing to force the third item, might not be aware of the Time Machine. |
