Who is doing this, and what is the best set of thimbles to buy?

I have Jean Hugard's book already.

I was looking at the wooden set of 8 with the holder and jumbo thimble at Daytona, for $9.
Anyone have this set?

I can only tell you what type not to get. When I was a kid, I got a set of EZ-magic thimbles which were "engineered" for ease of use. Unfortunately they did not resemble thimbles in any way (i.e., the kind that people use to sew). I'd say make sure that your thimbles look like thimbles. You will have a hard enough time finding an audience who even knows what a thimble is these days!

I think I saw those kind. Do they have a stair step kind of sides? The ones I was looking at were wood and look real. Thanks for the EZ tip.

Well KingStardog you said anyone,

I occasionally muck around with thimbles (I only really bother with one effect that's simple and highly visible, but it's well received). From what I understand, there are roughly an equal amount of people who prefer different types. I use the Vernets that 'nest' (they can 'click' though), but I've never tried the others, which don't nest as much.

I would suspect that a lot of this depends on how you are going to conceal the thimbles. If you are going to do a lot of thimble work, why not check out Joe Mogar's book 'Digital Magic'? I wouldn't bother otherwise unless you collect specialised books, but Joe has moves for both types in it although he prefers one type. It's also fair to call Joe's book 'The Bible of Thimble Books'.
May your fingers never lose their deftness,

May your tongue always lead them down the garden path...
