Has anyone here on the Café' purchased the memory course that Quentin Reynolds offers for almost $1000.00???? It looks very interesting but that is a bunch of money for a program. Just curious if anyone has purchased this from him and if so, if they can tell me if it has produced bookings as well as what they think of the course itself? I do a lot of school programs and have thought about adding a memory program to my list of programs. I came across this and thought it sounded rather interesting....
Thanks for your input! |

I've been considering it, as well. From what I can see, that isn't a course you take, but rather a memory lecture you promote and sell, largely geared to the education market.
I don't have any direct experience with it myself, but I do have Quentin Reynold's "Perform Like A Pro" DVD on order, so I can get a taste of the structure he talks about. |

My opinion; If this sounds like something you're interested in, find someone who has bought the course, and ask them how they like it and how much money they're making. Also, is it truly original, or does it consist of stuff you can find at a library or bookstore (Lorayne, etc.).
You also might want to consider if you really want to spend your time teaching a course in memory, or if you'd rather spend it perfecting perfecting and performing your act. $1,000 sounds steep to me. |

In my opinion if Quentin Reynolds speaks or releases somehting, listen hard, buy it quite and be ready to be amazed. Quentin is one of the best in the business in my opinion!

I've heard nothing but good things about him but must admit that I do not own anything he has ever put on the market.
Speaking is a high area if interest to me and something that I want to pursue since I have been in the schooo market for a number of years now. Not that I cannot afford $1000.00- that's not it at all. I just want to make sure that my money is going towards something that really does work. Anyone who has the course and can share their thoughts would be much appreciated. |

How about buying "How to develop a super power memory" by Harry Lorayne or one of many other books about mnemonics and just read it?
I have the feeling it my cost you a little bit less than 1000$. No offence, I know Quentin personally and I think he is professional and a wonderful magician/mentalist. |

I have the Quentin Reynolds memory course, and as Kennedy said, Quentin is a top notch pro, and anything he puts out is good.
Todd, if you are already doing a lot of school shows, this may be an extra program you can offer to them (it's especially good to offer before major exams!) I'd suggest it isn't a business in itself (ie. you won't become a millionaire with this program), but you can use it in addition to other programs you already offer to expand your market. I had read a LOAD of memory books, speed reading books etc. before I invested in the course. And yes, you could put your own one together...BUT it would take a lot of time. If time isn't a problem, you might consider putting your own program together. One thing to bear in mind though - the program you get has been "field tested" by Quentin - so you know the structure is as good as it's going to get.Other than that, can't say too much about the program without giving things away. Yes, it's a lot of money to invest in. If you'll do 1 or 2 programs with it, it ain't worth getting. If you reckon you'll be able to do a lot of programs with it, then it may be worth looking at investing in. And hey, it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. So the worst that happens is you get it, look through it, see it's not for you and return it. Hope that helps some Mike P.S. I have nearly every magic marketing course/school program.motivational program out there, and Quentin's memory course is without a doubt (IMHO) the most 'complete' in terms of what you get. (Of course for the money, you'd expect it to be complete wouldn't you?!)And Quentin's a great guy, I met him at the Blackpool Convention and he was super-helpful. |

Thanks for the kind words! My ideas is just what you said- to simply add it to the other programs that I already do. I already do quite a few assembly programs for testing and this seems like it would fit right into that.
I think I'll order it and see what I think! |

My thoughts:
Just seems like another magicboy is out to get your hard-earned cash, anything can be sold on the net and if its so good why is he telling the rest of you about it? Seems to me its easier to flog marketing packages that promise the earth to magicians than it is getting out there and do it yourself. Quentin can sit in the comfort of his own home flogging stuff to all those needy magicians out there and make a mint sitting on his arse, now that's gotta be better than working for a living! Read up on the subject of writing good copy/advertising and you'll see exactly what's being sold. Nothing against the memory idea but just learn the stuff and get out there and do it yourself, it's really easy if you can read - by the way read books on presentation, business and marketing and you'll do fine on your own. It seems to me that this Magic-cafe is just a place where the marketing magicians come to flog their wares to the less than experienced magicboys. Quentin is a real world performer and has been on eof the businest performers in the world. I know that he is not an armchair theorist and that he really does perform real shows for real people without a shaddow of a doubt.
There are a lot of people out there, especially in internet land who are selling information they havent used however I think it is unfare to tar everyone with that same brush. There are some genuine people out there who have learnt the hard way and are now selling that information. Kennedy

Socrates,
If you don't know anything about him, or his work, then why try to tear him down along with his work? Quentin is a first rate professional and doesn't deserve your highly negative characterization. My suggestion to you is to speak, only when you can improve on silence. Thus far, at least in this post; you certainly have not done that! The Doctor

Very well put Doctor!
I may be put under fire for what I am about to say but the truth is that I simply do not have the time to develope my own memory system. I do not plan to COPY what he is doing but rather change it to fit my style and sell the show. Motivational programs make up a large portion of what I do. Schools are a huge thing for me. This sounds like another program to add to my list of programs. Yes- it's expensive at almost $1000 but you always pay for quality. A Lexus and a Volvo are both cars but there is a difference! |

I agree with those who feel Quentin has a great reputation. He would have too much to lose if he scammed folks. Fortunately, the price keeps the hobbyists away. |

I've ordered the course! I can hardly wait to review it and see what it is all about! I never return any marketing course so I know I'll use it one way or another!
I'll let everyone know what I think! |

Thank you for all your kind comments.
Regardless of whether or not you're interested in my course, you might like to learn more about the speaking market and how you can use it to promote your own shows. I contributed an eleven part series to Alan Watson's ezine Magic NewZealand called "Making the Jump From Magician To Speaker" and have now compiled and edited it into an ebook. There is no charge for this ebook. If you click on this link you will find full instructions on how to downolad and read the eBook. http://www.speakinschools.com/download.html May I suggest you print out the eBook and add your own notes and ideas in the margins. Yes, the ebook does contain a plug for my course but the information is self-contained and completely relevant to any magician interested in exploring the area of speaking. Whether it be speaking for money or simply to generate more shows. This morning I received an email (one of many I've received) from David O'Connor who writes: "As subscriber to Alan Watsons N.Z. weekly e-zine, I followed your weekly contributions titled " How to Jump from Magician to Speaker " with interest. Imagine my surprise this morning to open up and find that you have very kindly put your series into a Pdf file for members to down load. That was an extremely generous thing to do and I for one am extremely grateful for this gesture. In fact I have just completed the down load and first thing tomorrow morning, I will have my local copy shop ring bind it, so that it becomes a lay flat type booklet. I am confident that I will be able to utilise the booklet to do exactly as the title suggests. Very obviously your experience in this particular field shows through and I believe it is an area that many of us magicians neglect or ignore. In this country motivational speakers, or celebrity speakers command huge fees, whereas a magician as a speaker should be able to offer much more to his community of the corporate world merely from his experience as you have pointed out." Socrates I totally agree with you. In my experience as a paid keynote speaker, the business of speaking/motivational speaking is extremely difficult to get into. Its taken me over five years to get where I am. There are lots of courses being sold on here and elsewhere on motivational magic, speaking, hypnosis etc marketed by guys that are not actually doing it themselves. If they were they would not have the time to market the courses believe me!. I work 24/7 on marketing my business. Course make the course author money, they wont make you money, there is no short cut, but getting off your butt marketing yourself. Save your cash
