Billy had been improving but went back into intensive care with pneumonia. Our wishes for a speedy recovery are with him.

I wish him well. He is a true inspiration and it was a real shame I have never had the chance to meet him. I was hoping for him to be a Blackpool but he couldn't make it. Hopefully next year. Get better soon Billy.

Among all the 'one of a kind' magicians out there and there are many, Billy McComb simply shines. Hope he gets well soon. Sincerely,

How about a wake? Drink some Jameson's and tell stories of the departed?

Years and years ago now when I was managing Chuck Martinez's Magician's World in North Park, San Diego the cruise ships would come to port. Billy was working one of the lines and every time the ship would come in Billy would show up at the shop to hang out. He was a great and generous man. He'd show us sleights and bits of business that we had never even heard of before. He'd then tell us the exact derivation of the move and on and on. It was a grand time.

And, here is the best part and it tells you about the soul of the man. Because my father worked for years at Universal Studios I have been in the presense of folks who 'thought' they were great, but really weren't. Billy McComb WAS great and you'd never know it from talking to 'him'. He gave off no vibes that said stand off from the great man. He pulled you in and made you part of what he was doing and what he knew.

If I seem at all sappy or over the top I can tell you I haven't even come close. Magic is filled to overflowing with wonderful folks, and then there was Billy McComb. If you have not guessed, Billy was and is my favorite person in magic and had been for many years.

I married into a VERY Irish American family. Here is my favorite very Irish blessing:

May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand. Good bye William,
