I had heard the magic shop on 5th closed but I'm not certain. If he got Final Answer for $50 that would be the steal of the century.

"I bought Final Answer and I am being frank when I tell you that the props are way way overpriced for what you get."
Yeah really.... I just bought a water levitation from Owen Magic Supreme. It is just a bunch of wood, metal and some pipes with a pump....way over priced for what you get! Come on now...really. |

Does every version of “Bill In Impossible Location” really have the same impact on an audience as any other? Hmmmm. You don’t think that an audience might find that a signed bill in lemon more mysterious than just any bill coming out?
I have performed the signed bill scenario for years and in my humble opinion, “The Final Answer” is perhaps under priced. Keep in mind that I am part of a duo and our working with the prop and the whole lost money act is quite different than with a solo performer. Also remember that we are discussing the “SIGNED Bill in Lemon” not just “Bill in Lemon”. We climax our routine with having the volunteer retrieve three lemons from the audience; the lemons where there before the show. The volunteer freely chooses one (no forcing) and the volunteer slices the lemon in half discovering his signed bill. When you realize that my partner and I have invested years in the routine, “The Final Answer” allows for a great, clean climax. Now for the question … does every version hold the same impact on an audience? With the amount of performers doing the “Bill to Impossible Location”, it isn’t too surprising that audience members will comment on seeing it before. We constantly hear, “I (we) saw this guy some time back do the thing with money and a lemon … but my God … it wasn’t anything like what you two did!” (O.K. I’m paraphrasing but I hope it makes a point.) Best regards, Michael BlackSalt |

I'm probably not the only person who has purchased it and thought the same. Scott, I didn't say your gimmick was poorly made, nor did I say that the Final Answer is bad. To the contrary, its a great effect. But not everyone is a well paid magician who can justify the cost of items like the Final Answer or a water levitation. The Final Answer isn't for the curious or occassional hobbiest. There are better values out there for them in my opinion. People should know that before they fork out hundreds of dollars on a BIL. That's all. |

I actually got to see the Final Answer in action yesterday for the first time. I also got to play with it. Based on my experience, I am ordering one today and am selling my Lemon Game. The Final Answer can be used to make other version, like the Eason/Spill version better and that is what I like. Plus, Scott's handling of the lemon is the best I have seen.
Regarding the gimmick itself, a lot of work went into it from what I saw. Plus you are getting comprehensive dvds with multiple routines for every performing situation. To me, the total package was worth the asking price. Scott released one of his babies here and I fully expect and agree that I should have to pay a premium to use it. |

Well as I said, it is becoming increasingly difficult to reveiw a product or offer an opinion without arguing about price. (Although emyers had to prove me wrong...I apparently changed his mind, after saying it is almost impossible to).
To make one correction to tdowell's post, you are paying for one prop, not props. However, there are other things to the price. Scott's price in releasing the effect. And as I have said on other threads, the DVD's alone are a treatsie on the BIL and I would have paid probably a $100 just for the two DVD's. Anytime you put together as much information as possible it is a great value. The DVD's just at a minimum cover close-up, stage, and parlor presentations, types of fruit, types of bill, loading maneuvers, how to prepare the fruit, etc. Everything you would need to know on crafting a BIL routine, in which you receive a gaff that will allow you endless possibilities. I have already said, I don't even do Scott's routine, nothing even similar. I just use the gaff. I think another point that can be debated is bringing up the notion that regular performers may be foolish to spend more money on something that a hobbyist can buy cheaper. I think one difference is that regular performers care more about any way they can improve the impact on a lay audience, where a hobbyist is looking for something more affordable to show their friends and get them by. There's nothing wrong with that at all, but I don't think that makes those who want to explore better opportunities foolish. Anyway, back to the original question...the question was what do you think is the best BIL concept. Not best for everyone, but what do you feel is the best. I responded with the Final Answer and believe I am in a position to offer that opinion because I have bought performed and altered many of the other versions. (Berland's, Spill/Eason, Lemon Game, Teleportation Device, Final Answer). Since I have actually used all of them, I think I might be able to offer, simply, what I feel was the best method. But then again, it was the best method for me. I had a great way of doing it back twelve years ago with the Steve Spill version when I was a bartender. I learned it after Doc Eason had it in his lecture notes in 1990. I could be mistaken, but I think Doc has messed around with using the Final Answer now. But anyway...I was asked for which I thought was best, and that was my opinion. Now Scott...........when is your rope trick coming out? |

I Do not have the Doug Malloy's The Lemon Game, buy 2 years ago, I saw someone performed this. I agreed, that is the one of the best. Nice routine and story.

Like you, I debated for the longest time about which Bill in Lemon effect to get. I finally decided to get Cloutier's DVD where he does the bill in lemon (but I think he uses a kiwi instead). It's a great DVD of this effect and several others. Seeing a professional such as him in action is great. His method of Bill in Lemon, however, is pretty advanced in that it requires sl*****g from what I can recall. Way too difficult for a less-than-part-time hobbyist like myself. A nice DVD, though, to add to one's collection!

I've been using "The Final Answer" for a couple of years now, and the beauty of this method is the very small amount of preparation required. Plus, the incredible impact it has on an audience. This is the one that people ALWAYS remember and ask about. I developed a method for loading the bill that looks SO innocent, there is just NO WAY anyone can see how it's done. The gimmick is priced about right in my opinion, bearing in mind the cost of developing and producing such a product. Plus, if the price seems to be keeping it out of the reach of some performers, doesn't that make it more exclusive for those who can afford it?
I own several other versions of this effect, although not "The Lemon Game", which also looks great. But the Final Answer is always ready to go, and comes with several fantastic suggested routines. Older kids, teenagers, and adults are always awestruck with the effect, and younger kids find it really funny, it's a fantastic item for a family show! |

I own also most of the so called pricey methods on the marked and I have done all the popular cheap versions from Cloutier, Eason and performed all at least around 50 times. Some versions over hundret I think and after all this experimenting I can say that 2 products rise way above all the rest! They are Doug Malloys Lemon Game and Scott Alexanders final answer.
Lemon game gives you all you need to do complete exceptionally well thought of routine with all the probs. That justifies its price completely and especially the well thought of routine it worth its weight in gold for working professional. You save tons and tons of time cos most of the stuff is allready thought to you. Only thing you have to do is adapt the presentation to fit into your style. If I had to say one bad thing about the lemon game it would be that the method really isn't anything revolutionary and therefore the lemon cant be somewhere in view before the bill is borrowed, but routine reasons this perfectly so it is not problem. Final Answer on the other had gives you extremely versatile gimmick and over 3 hours of ideas and routine suggestions on bill in lemons. The strenght in this routine is its unbelievable versatility. The packet gives you 3 complete routines and enough thoughts and bits and business for you to create your totally own personal routine. Also I gotta say that the method is maybe the most ingenious of all versions. It even beats Barrie Richardsons ingenious method in my mind. The fact about Final answer is that it WILL FOOL THE H..L OUT OF to even most smartest laymen or magicians who havent read all the forums about the trick trying to lurk out some info what it might be. The add texts in this one seem to be too good but actually they aren't. In my opinion it is even better than the adds say. I had my doubts about investing on this cos I had lemon game but after I saw it on action I banged my head on the wall why I hadnt got it earlier. Also people claim that it isn't worth what it is? I can assume that then you don't do magic for living, cos 400$ a showpiece like this is a pure steal. Actually I think this should be priced higher to keep it out of the just curious people range. Also those saying this is expensive look at the thing you receive and watch the 1st DVD again and especially the part about the explanation of the gimmick and you will understand how much work and developement has gone into it. It is not cheap to develop and make something rather orginal. Exceptional product by all means. If you are pro who knows the products will pay themselves back in one or two gigs, get em both. Otherwise I would suggest you to get what ever appeal you more, in other words if the game show premise of Lemon game appeals you get it, but if you want extremely versatile prob that allows you to make your own routine, get final answer (as an off note I gotta say that with Final answer you could easily ceate routine like lemon game and even much better one, but it woudnt be right unless you buy presenation rights and so on from mr Malloy) Juha-Matti |

I would like to extend a hearty thank you to those who "get it."
Also...I believe that Mike Dustman has integrated his Lemon Game and Final Answer into one routine and has enjoyed success with it. I do reccomend the lemon game as a fantastic BIL routine. Dougs premise and framework are great. s |

I just saw Manuel Muerte Lecture and I think his version of the signed bill in lemon is very simple and very effective and the same time. For those with a limited budget I higly recommend his DVD Magic by Misdirection, which not only includes this routine and a variation of the bill to cigarrete but also includes many other fine routines including his FISM act.

I do two versions of "signed bill in lemon". One utilizes a nest of boxes, the other is "final Answer" The thing about final answer is the versatility of it all. Final answer gives you a tool to do "jazz magic", which is very satisfying. It is easy to carry around, and the set up is quick.
I like it! Arthur |

Signed bill to lemon, orange, jelly donut or just about anything for $3.99 at any magic store,, works just fine for me and it will blow away any lay audience.

Is there a video or clip of a performance of "The Final Answer" available on the internet anywhere?
Never criticize someone else until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Then, when you do criticize them, you will be a mile away from them and you will have their shoes.

I do a signed bill to sugar packet at my restaurant gigs using the old $3.99 magic store prop and it kills. Not saying Final Answer wouldn't be great, though.
