Can you explain it? I've never heard of this one.

From the ad:
"Classic Block Effect has been taken to a whole new level. Using a polished four-inch solid block of Acrylic, you thread a nylon cord through the center of the block not once but twice. The cord is help up, showing that the block is suspended half way down its length. While holding the block, freeing the block from the cord! Include is Mr. Brewe's istructions explaining his improved handling of this great effect and his routine about Bessie The "Elusive" Cow. He has been performing for many, many years and "Bessie" is always the most talked about trick in the show." It's on sale from several dealers, and usually around $150. I'd love to know what the patter is to see if it would fit me, but the presentation is basically what you're buying.

This sounds interesting in the fact that it is not using two ropes but one...only one man.
I've always wanted to just make one up employing a block of plexiglass and using the old method of the Grandmother and still might, someday. johnny

The patter is great Mr. Brewe has been perorming this effect for 30+ years & the patter plays extremely well. I have been using the effect in it's original form since I first saw Bill perform it, however I use my own patter lines now. Maverick Magic is making available a number of pieces that Mr Brewe holds the rights to & they are producing a top notch product in all cases. Please remember in the case of this product you are paying for the routine & the high quality apparatus, no special gimmicks involved.

I purchased one from Steven's Magic- the instructions are not written all that well (in my view). Anybody seen "Bessie, The "Elusive" Cow or this improved block cord performed anywhere on video or on youtube so I can watch the presentation of it at least? http://www.maverickmagic.com does not seem to work as a web site anymore... Thanks.

I did see on youtube Bill Brewe Magician (former attorney William H. Brewe of Cinci was the creator of this effect) but cannot determine if his magic shop is still open. Would love to contact him regarding his Improved Block Cord... Roger Magic Bus, attorney from Michigan http://www.BusDebtLaw.com and http://www.ChristianMagician.org

There is another short thread on this effect here on the Café' whick you might find interesting.
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......&forum=4 By the way, Mr. Bill Brewe did not invent the Blok-Cord (AKA Block Cord) trick. He simply developed his own story line and made the thing in a clear plastic/acrylic block. It was invented by Lyman Allen. While the clear plastic block looks pretty it really adds nothing to the effect. The old block of wood version is just as effective and deceptive. Like Professors Nightmare this is a trick that has been ripped off by many magic dealers using the old Public Domain argument.

Thanks, much appreciate the above information. I know that in 1971 John de Vries (former President of the FCM) gave me his carved out wood Gospel magic version of the old "Blok Cord" as he spelled it. I love that particular version of that same trick, have made many similar wooden ones over the years.

Hi Everyone,
I am looking for the Brewe routine for Bessie, the Elusive Cow. Please let me know if you have a set for sale. Don't need the props! Thanks in advance! |
