Hey everyone

What books do you recommend that has real workers for hobbyists. The effects do not have to be mind blowing to the magicians, or something very very creative and new..just simple, direct, strong effects for lay people. What I mean by such effects are like a simple transposition trick with double lifts...cut & restored rope routine..vanishing and reappearance of coins...vanishing cigarette/hanky..bill switch....etc

The only books I know of so far is JOhn Bannon's DMF and Smoke & Mirrors. I do not have any of David Acer's books, but I've seen his videos and most of his tricks are direct, and simple...

Some people recommend Mike Close's Workers series. I've watched the DVDs but I feel they are rather advanced, than simple...memorized deck, with card estimation, all sorts of palming...etc.

I have watched a few DVDs/videos that have many real workers effects (David Williamson Magic Farm), but I have not heard of many books.

Check out Jay Sankey's older material. The Very Best of Jay Sankey L&L DVD series is a good start. Also Greg Wilson has some great stuff in his DVD On The Spot. You may also enjoy John Guastaferro's Brainstorm DVDs.

I know this is in the book section.. but from what you said, it seems like you can't go wrong with getting "Darwin's encyclopedia of Thumb Tip Magic". This is a 3 DVD set and it is very reasonably priced. I never realized all the possibilities there are with a thumb tip until I got this set. I recommend it for sure. Smile
