Thought this move was kind of backward and funny looking until Simon Lovell smoked the hell out of me with it. I mean really... smooth as silk, never saw it happen. Oh sure, he told me he was going to do it... but I never saw it. Wow.
I guess the hard moves really are worth learning. |

Boy am I blushing now!
Glad you enjoyed the move and hope that you'll learn it. It really is a great utility move to steal a card into a full palm with no visible action. I only hope that the explanation I gave you covered the finer points on it properly! Simon |

HI Simon...is your explanation exactly the same as written by Erdnase? or you altered it to be better without any tell tale movement?

Art,
It's pretty much the same as the Erdnase description with some up dates etc. Geoff Latta showed me some lovely touches on it as has Wesley James. So my handling is kind of a Lovell/Erdnase/Latta/James combo kinda thingy! It's a swine to get down but, in my opinion, worth the time and effort required to get it just right! Simon |

But, I'm thinking of making it better. Ocassionaly, I'm making some noise when I'm shifting the card due to snapping it to palm to early. |

Just wanted to post that I love the DPS and use it quite a bit when it is needed (great middle card insertion palm).
Took a lot of practice on the finer points, but it does get invisible and I love it when a card-guy is like "yeah but let me see you DPS" (card-guys are silly imho, we always want to see that one move), but you can nail them with it. I really don't know how much of a difference a DPS is to a straddle one card pass->bottom, but I enjoy performing the move and its very nice imho, something you should definitely spend time on. |

Although I rarely employ the DPS I did benefit from Dai Vernon's description and demonstration on the Revelations DVD. The added touches, such as the squaring motion, were very helpful.
I must admit to not having seen Simon Lovell's explanation.

John Carney does the DPS so well for his effect "Leipzig opener". It is invisible. But, still us people who know thesleights can detect when the move is being executed. I personally like DPS than loewy top palm when producing the card immediately from the right jacket pocket.

Those interested in the move should investigate the Arthur Finley handling in the Vernon Chronicles, which takes the card back against the palm, in the opposite hand, from the original version. |

Wow, I am amazed that so many people are interested in this somewhat arcane move. It is invisible when done correctly but does take considerable time and effort to learn it well. It really is a case of having to trust both the fingers and the cards to do the job. You can't be too precise or tight with the move, you have to start it and then, with a light touch, trust the card/s to do its/their job!

And Jennings said they wa Vernon did DPS and Jennings did is different due to the size of the hand.

Giobbi has some nice subtleties on this move in Card College. I've never thought it was that difficult, and it's a lot of fun to do. Funny how certain people find certain things difficult and not others. Now if I could only do a simple pressure fan...

LePaul has a nice alternative to the DPS in his book. I find it easier than the DPS and have a few touches on it which I'll be happy to share with anyone who PM's me. (Please don't unless you have the book as it would be difficult to explain the whole thing over a PM). I've found it to be quite effective, however. Just trying to help. Take care all.
