Jester,

Consider this...

Politely escort your volunteer up onto the stage and ask him to sit or bend down to participate in the next effect (ie. paper balls over the head, guillotine, etc.).

As one of your hands gently (but firmly) pushes down on his shoulder to encourage him into the sitting/bending position, your other hand "starts" the dirty work --firmly clipping the top portion of his wallet, located in his back pocket. He feels your hand on his shoulder (the first touch) and doesn't feel the second hand as it clips his wallet. Then, as he moves into the process of sitting/bending, and you keep your clipped hand in a fixed/motionless position, his wallet will come out of his pocket almost automatically. At this point all the work is done and you can either flash it above and behind him in the traditional way, or hold it back for later (and dramatic) display.

Hope the above tips prove helpful and fit your persona, style of performance and approach towards audience management.

It certainly has worked for me over the years.

Please let us know how it goes.

You're welcome xjesterx.

Let us know how it goes.

If you don't mind my asking, what type of act are you doing or putting together?

Is it strictly a Pickpocketing act, or a Magic act that includes Pickpocketing?

I like to steal it with the following method.

I place my left hand on the buckle of his belt and my right at the back. The hand at the back has my pinkie and ring fingers slipped under the belt. I pull up with both hands as I say, "Nice belt! Leather or Aligator? Leather? Oh how boring." As I pull up on the belt, the pants are pulled up off the body allowing my right index finger and thumb to pinch the top of the wallet and pull it out.

Usually, as my left hand is removed from the buckle, I pull the belt out of the little leather loop to prepare for a belt steal later on.

This has worked quite well for me, especially when I am stealing from a tight jean pocket.

Cheers,

Chris.
