I've seen most people do a waterfall by flexing the cards, almost like for springing, and then relax the hand to get air between each card, then release them by opening the hand. People that are skilled at this get real good results.
I've had a hard time getting that technique to work very well. I did discover another way that seems to work (for me at least) with similar results. I hold the (un-powdered) deck loosely between my thumb, middle, and ring finger, with the edge resting on my pinky. This gives the deck a natural bevel which seems to allow the cards to flow across the pinky in a very fluid motion. The fingers and thumb really just guide the cards, or keep them aligned as the pinky lets them go. I find the grip and set-up to be much quicker and far more natural, than the common method, and I can also do it with the cards the long way which I haven't seen done before. Try it yourself! Let me know what you think. BTW, I am still working on the other method too.

Yes it works
Yay! I prefer the original method because it can get longer ones (at this level of practice atleast) and it is quicker to get into. Nice thinking though. |

@ artwo...
You must be better at the original than I am (most people are). For me it's much harder to get the cards all flexed and ready. I can just grab the deck and go like this, especially if I want to do it more than once in quick succession.

So have you tried the waterfall like this? You really should be able to get it from the description. Chiappi does something similar in one of his challenge vids (#3 I think).

I believe it's "Ciappi" not sure if I've seen that vid in particular.
haven't tried, from the sound of it, it seems as if the pinky would rotate the card as they fall... Not that I'm all that great at a normal waterfall. |

You're right on Ciappi! Oops!
The pinky is right in the center of the cards, so they don't rotate. It's more like the cards are just waitig to fall, and moving the pinky out of the way allows them to. You should just try it with the cards in your hand.

Actually I do 90% of my stuff either at work with a stack of business cards or driving in the car w/ a deck…
And 90% of that is one handed cuts. I’ve gotten pretty proficient driving stick shift, typing and drafting w/ one hand. I’ll try to give this a go sometime this week, during my very short sessions of actual card work, but can’t make you any promises. = |

I got reamed over at HL for saying I did one handed cuts while driving!
I thought everyone did it. BTW I do AutoCAD all day.

Okay I'm sitting here with a kinda old clunky deck, and to my surprise, I can kinda get a 6" waterfall going .. it's a little spuratic.. but hey !! I'll work on it and maybe I can throw up a short vid, if I get it down.
Topic: Getting Reamed at HL.... Hmmmmm..... I'm going to have to stay out of that one right there... There are some interested post back in the day if you dig them up though... AutoCAD... ugggggghhhh I've been working on MicroStation for 2 years (Civil Site Design) and we are right in the middle of switching to AutoCAD 2000 with the Civil 3d Package... It's so freaking HARD... it now takes me an hour to draw a stupid line!! I could literally rant about AutoCAD all day. |

It works really good with a fresh deck.
2000 s**ks! A lot of the parametric add-on programs have glitches too. They're up to 2007 now. I run R14 and 2005, all 2D for work, some 3D for personal recreation, I never used MicroStation

I'm sorry I meant 2006 not 2000 lol... living in the past there...
This new Civil 3D Stuff is suppose to Change a lot of the way we do things, Getting out of working in 2D and dealing more with 3D surfaces... Still haven't been to those classes, so right not drafting is a struggle .. lol What feild are you in? Mechanical, Electrical? I need to buy some new fresh decks... In all honesty .. I really stink at the pressure fans, and waterfalls, and all the moves that require that release in a smooth motion. So I might be able to do your style much smoother. |

2006 is better! I do architectural millwork...cabinets, reception desks, conference tables...stuff like that. Pretty simple stuff, I program the CNC too.
Go to Target, get a couple decks of Bikes...they've got lavender ones at my Target, but I like the Black/Silver reverse prints better.

I have a tough time doing the Waterfull Shuffle. It's usu. a miss and hit when I do this shuffle. I guess my problem is that I don't riffle shuffle each card as sometimes a few cards would riffle down by my thumbs and that creates an uneven thickness? Anyone?
