Hey Mental!
Salo is not real...It was a film done in 1975 based on the writings of the Marqis De Sade. Yep...It is about torture. But at least it isn't real. Gwyd |

To me, the most horrifying movie of the last twelve years has to be "Bush's Brain" about a Roving monster that moves from Texas to Washington, D.C. rolling over the corpses of his victims.
 Seriously, though, Alien did it to me. As did the original version of the Exorcist, before they pulled out the subliminals. Lee Darrow, C.H.

Watched the Entity last night. That movie gave me the chills. Probably the only one that ever had me kinda freaked out.

I have the Amityville Horror and the remake, they're both just ok, but nothing great.

My two cents...
I never had the opportunity to get scared watching Blair Witch. My sister was too busy digging her fingernails into my arm. Between the pain and me trying not to laugh at her, I didn't get into it much. The Ring... I liked it because there was no end to the curse (haven't seen Ring 2 yet). This gives me the right kind of chills because there is no happy little bow-tie ending. I wasn't particularly scared during the movie, I just enjoyed it. A couple of days after I saw the movie, I was talking to a friend on the phone, with the TV on in the background. I said to my friend "I saw the ring, the other day" immediately the TV went to pure static... I nearly soiled myself. It was just a commercial... so yes, the ring got my scare factor, by nothing more than coincidence. If you like campy horror movies, I worked on one called Two Front Teeth. It's a indie Christmas horror film... very silly! It's still in post production, but feel free to check out the trailer and see me in all my prostethic bloodyness. Enjoy! http://twofrontteethmovie.com/ |

Here's one to add to the list: Pumpkinhead.
Nice re-telling of a Southern "ha'nt" story, genuinely creepy with an emphasis on story over gory. Yeah, it was like an extended version of Twilight Zone, but as far as cinematically-released B flicks, this one was not bad. |

I just got re-animator. Wasn't too bad. I was expecting more action.

Pumpkinhead! Yaay! I had forgotten about that one...Odd...I own it and have watched it quite a few times, and a friend of mine actually has one of the heads from the movie.
A very oddly frightning movie...Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Not your traditional horror flick...More of a comedy actually... But it disturbed me. Gwyd |

My vote has to go to Napoleon Dynamite; it frightens me because I know there are people like that out there. To top it off they are always closer to you than you think much like the zombies in Sean of the dead. Which by the way is a great movie if you have not seen it?

I just now stumbled across this thread, but I will throw my two cents worth in.
The only movie to every really frighten me was The Exorcist. I think that is because, like Doug, I believe in the possibility of possession. I just recently watched it again and it doesn't seem as scary today. Not because of its quality but because it screams 70's which makes it harder (at least for me) to suspend disbelief. No other movies have scared me, but I do love horror movies. I really enjoyed Sixth Sense. The Exorcism of Emily Rose was A good movie, but could have been made scarier. The Blair Witch Project was a brilliant concept, but I feel that they didn't quite pull it off. I also love the old classic Universal and Hammer horror films. The Wolfman has to be my favorite of them, but I can watch them all over and over (and do). Anyway, great thread. Dave |

My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Vinny, I agree with you on the original version of 'The Thing'. Very scary, especially when I was a kid. But I wish I'd never found out that the guy in the rubber suit was Marshall Dillon.

When I was a kid, there was a movie....it didn't scare me at all but I liked it then. It had a guy who lived in a house/cabin. This house was robotic, it would do stuff for him and it would talk to him in a female voice. This guy's wife and kid comes over to stay in it and the robotic gets jealous feelings and trys to kill the wife...In the end the robot ends up in some kids computer leading on for a sequel. Anyone know the name of this movie, I've been trying to find out for years. Thanks
