Hi, all!

I was introduced to someone today who runs a local baseball field here in town. (Clearwater, FL)

Anyway, this field is well-known for family nights, etc. The field serves as the training field for the Phillies Baseball team every spring.

I presented ideas to him about performing grand illusion magic before, during and right after the games. Shows would run no more than 20 minutes at a time. I even think 20 minutes is a BIG stretch. Ideally it will be one trick at each time. Some more like 5-10 minutes.

These illusions require hauling, people to help, lights, music, etc. I want to know how much does it seem is reasonable to charge for such an event? I don't want to over-charge nor under-charge. Also, does anyone know of an entertainer who does something similar during sporting events?

Thanks in advance.

Anyone? Am I the first magician to do this type of event?

Brandon,

Yes, this has been done before. It is a great idea and concept. Keep in mind your effects have to play large and visually.

Depending on your resume, background and what type of game it is will affect the cost. For example, if it is a major team like college or professionals I would imagine you could charge more. If it should be for a school game or local game, then I would think the rate would be lower.

The media exposure could be great on this as well.

If you seek out Hal Diamond's book, "Promotion in Motion", you will find photos of him performing at halftime at sporting events. (I specifically remember a photo of an upside down straight jacket escape suspended from a crane.)

I think that Kent Cummins' book, "The Self-Eating Watermelon", also discussed self-funding halftime shows.

There was also an article a few years ago, I think in MAGIC Magazine, about performers at halftime for the Orlando Magic team.

I've also seen footage of Blackstone, Jr., performing at a SuperBowl halftime show.

I haven't done it personally, but know that qualified people are out there doing it.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks for the replies. It's a local team but they double for the training home for the Phillies. Here are a few of the ideas:

Cassette Prediciton
Modern Art
Motorcycle Appearance
Blindfolded Motorcycle Drive
Maybe even some type of big escape like in a plywood box hung above the ground.

OK, for tricks like this I was thinking of charging them 450.00 per game?

Is that reasonable... too much... too little?

I would think that the blindfolded motorcycle drive with obstacles on the field would be easy and impressive to accomplish. Remember it is your sixth sense that allows you to do this effect.

Prediction would be lost. Think visually. ESCAPE IS GOOD.

It is a good thought. Remember, what will you get from it other than the money. It's a good idea to see if you can get free ad space in a flyer or get your contact info displayed on the big screen while performing the trick.
