I do hope I am not repeating stuff that has already been mentioned, but what does anyone know about Gaetan Bloom's "Tales from the planet Bloom" Video series?
What kind of content is there on this series? Does anyone have any recommendations or reviews? Thanks |

Gateans videos are very interesting ,he has some wonderful ideas which are very fresh.
Most of his tricks involve gimmicks, I am not a gimmick person nevertheless. The videos are recommended. The time spent in making some of these gimmicks are well worth the reaction the tricks get. vinny |

I purchased Volume II of this video series and was very, very underwhelmed. Some of the tricks are interesting in a Rube Goldbergian I-can't-believe-all-the-work-he-put-into-such-a-menial-effect kind of way. And perhaps some of the effects might work in a staged close-up show (as opposed to a table-hopping, impromptu, walk-around, or a showing a friend a trick performance).
Again, I can only speak for the volume that I saw. If you think the idea of performing an effect similar to Blizzard; but with a big, gimmicked, cardboard bleach box, is interesting, perhaps you were the intended audience (notice they don't mention the big, gimmicked, cardboard bleach box in the description of Bonux). Another effect, Kit-Klop, allows you to produce a completely unrealistic, unexaminable cigarette from your mouth. Another effect, Fifty-Fifty, has a spectator selecting one of two briefcases, the one he selects is empty, the other one has a prize in it. It's a lot like Charles Gauci's Eye to Eye, except grossly unwieldy and completely unrepeatable (which makes a 50/50 type of effect, kind of meaningless in my eyes). Maybe the other volumes were better, but steer clear of volume two. |

I have viewed all three of the videos. My first thought - all of them are very entertaining. There were many very good effects, and Bloom is a very good entertainer.
You would probably be very happy to have at least half of the effects in your repertoire. On the other hand, as has been pointed out, the effects require work to produce, and they must be carted about. They would be suitable for a parlor show but not close-up. Final analysis: very entertaining; several extremely clever ideas that can be applied elsewhere; primarily of use to parlor workers who will spend time to make the effects. Gianni |

I have seen one of the video's I can't remember which number, the one with the effect where you produce a whole meal from a empty Mc Donalds bag. From what I saw some of his effects a very good some not. But after watching one I did feel to buy the rest. Whereas when I saw the video 'smoke and mirrors' I wanted to go and buy all John Bannon's stuff.

I have the tapes, and be prepared to do a lot of fabricating. Once you get any one of the items built, however, it should last for a long time. My favorite is the pick a prize board, where 8 spectators pick a prize and pull a string, and the magician gets last pick, and of course a wad of money. Very cool.

Does anyone know where I can view the table of contents of these tapes? I saw Gaetan lecture at Magic In The Rockies this year and like him a lot. He didnot have the tapes available there. Thanks.

Have you seen Gaetan's "Escorial Card" 3-card monte? It's a keeper.

Try Denny & Lee's (he has a toll free number on his WEB site) or Barry's Magic at (301) 933-0373. If neither of them have it, shoot me a PM and I'll track it down for you. By the way, my favorite version is Skinner's (with a couple of modifications), just to let you know what appeals to me. Gaetan's is my 2nd favorite.

Gaetan is the best !
If you want to know him better you can get his 3 vids in french (but easy to follow if you don't speak). General Magic, Invisible Thread, ThumbTip. All far far more richer than many vids you can see around from others on these subjects. Bloom is at Thumbtip what Tamariz is at Cards.

CardFan. Why do you let all the people know how good Gaetan Bloom is? Letting people know this will mean that none of the good material will be left for us...
