Anyone, who built it? Seems like a very cool prop. Just curious where one gets an 8 ft. sphere.

Don't know who built it, but it is a nice piece of work. Esp. the iron beams supporting it. The sphere has the extra feature of magnifying him so that he's literally larger than life.

It really is a cool piece. For sure. I love the curved beams. A great design.

Both Kristen and myself really like the design of the sphere tank. As mentioned the larger than life from the shape of the tank is great. That is why we went with a cylinder on ours. DB's work on this is pretty amazing, even the frame holding the sphere is well thought out and looks incredible.

Is it possible this " larger than life" distortion is going to be used to pull off the same switcheroo that Blaine used in the Ice stunt? It's been stated that Blaine will be relieving himself and eating via tubes. ( hopefully not the same one.. LOL ) I don't see the relief tube connected to him so my only guess is that they will temporarily cover the tank to let him " take care of business" and do a similar switch.

Yup: Illusion or a.n.other mindless stunt?
But WHY?

Why would they need to cover the tank? He already cleared out his system via fasting so there is nothing to hide in that respect. A switcheroo?!! Yeah, they probably designed the sphere with just enough distortion so that their David Blaine lookalike could not be called out by spectators 2 feet away......? By the way there was no switching in the ice stunt as well...silly concept.

Its called Sleep. Try and go without it for a week and see what happens. And.. YES there was a switch. The cameras were not on 24/7. Fire extinguishers were used as cover for the switch for those seeing the stunt in person. Best, Tim |

Why would Blaine Switch... Can't you see that he is trying to take it back to the Houdini days. It's not an illusion that Blaine is pulling off... It's a large publicity stunt! Man vs. nature... That's all. If you think about it... in the ice "stunt", blaine was fine... all he was in was an over-glorified igloo. The only danger would be if he fell asleep and rested his face against the ice... it would stick to the ice...
My point is this... It's all for publicity! A lot of people may not like Blaine (and count me as one of them) but he has mastered the art of publicity... Draw a huge crowd and the rest will follow. He's built his "empire" on this concept! As far as the tank, it is very cool. It reminds me of one I saw on the FISM videos... The only reasonhe would need to swith in the tanks is for emergency reasons... otherwise it's up to his crew to find the perfect balance of salts and chemicals to keep the proper balance so his skin won't peel off. Here's a little lesson in waters: Salt water (like the ocean) makes your body swell Fresh Water (like in your bath tub or pool) pulls your body's moisture out and that's what causes the wrinkling of your hands and toes... Maintain these to the right level, and it slows the progress of the wrinkling or swelling... They'll figure it out I guess... It should be interesting to see his new special... there sure is a lot of hype! All the best! Bryan |

Where did you get your information that he switched in the ice stunt? I have yet to see a majority of magicians who believed that this happened, as they seem to be the minority. I admit it is possible that I am out of the loop on this, but from my knowledge it was a few columnists who started that rumor. These type of rumors come with all of his stunts, inevitably.
Regardless, the impressive aspect to me will be the breath holding finale. This is one part that cannot be faked, although it could be assisted with the help of pure 02 inhalation before the start. Even if he does do that it is still incredibly impressive to go for 9 minutes. |

Its clearly stated in just about every article on this stunt that he will have a feeding tube to feed him a vitamized liquid. That has to go someplace and those same articles have also said that this will be accomplished with a disposal tube. The tube is not on him now so it must have to be hooked up at some point????? Will they do this in public or cover the tank for a " pee break" ???... only time will tell. Regards the ice stunt. It was a switch... I know this for a fact as I know a source close to the stunt. I won't go any further into my source but it was done. Believe what you want.... that's what makes magic so great. I mentioned the switch in response to the distorted image created by the sphere's shape that was mentioned in a earlier post and thought I'd chime in on a benefit of it. Now I realize the topic borders on method exposure and won't discuss it any further. Best, Tim |

I watched them take the urine bag out of the tank on Monday, around 6:30pm. it had been free-floating in the tank with him. I don't know details of how it works, but from what I saw, it's obviously detachable. I would guess the feeding tube is, as well, and that the "working end" is concealed inside his pants, with the catheter. It makes for a better image if the only visible tube is the air tube.
Thanks to those who provided the links - great info & pics. |
