Hey everyone. I've been trying to find a copy of John Bannon's book "Smoke and Mirrors" and "Impossibilia". Unfortunately, they're rather hard to find. I did notice though, that he'd put out DVD's of the same title.
Does anyone know if the DVD's are as good as the books? Like if they have the same material, or if one explains the effects better. Thanks |

I recently picked up my copies of the books you mention at Browser's Den of Magic, in Toronto. They do mail order stuff as well. I believe I saw the books in stock last time I was there.

Check out the magic warehouse, I bought a copy there a couple of months ago.

I just recently saw Impossibilia advertised in the latest L&L catalogue.

The Videos/DVDs does not have all the material from the books. The DVDs are good but I think that the books have better effects in them-see his chop cup routine in Impossibilia for example. If I'm not mistaken Smoke and Mirrors-the book was re-released.They are both very good and not that difficult to learn.

Smoke & Mirrors is reprinted, while Impossibilia is out of print though you can still find some copies out there.

Both DVDs have some very strong material. My personal vote goes for the impossibilia DVD which has quite a few routines from Smoke and Mirrors oddly enough. However, I do agree with andre in that the books have so much great material that isn't covered in the dvds. In the past, I have had some difficulties learning from books, but never with Bannon's books- they read easy, and the methods are direct.
So just to recapitulate: if you do buy a bannon book, my vote is for S&M. If you buy a dvd, go with impossibilia. |

I would STRONGLY suggest the books over the videos.
Not only that, but they aren't too hard to find. DMF is in print, Smoke and Mirrors is in a reprinting, and Impossibilia comws up every now and thne on ebay. |

I would agree with getting the books over the dvd's. I have both, but there is some real workers in the book that don't appear on dvd.
Having said that, I don't think "New Jack City" appears anywhere in either book and I use that all the time !! (please correct me if I'm wrong). Cheers, Alan |

New Jack City appears on the Smoke & Mirrors DVD. IMHO, you should search for the books also. As mentioned above S&M is available as we speak but unfortunately Impossibilia is OOP. But a search on E-bay could be your best bet for that slendid book.
