Effect: a magician shows up holding a can of coke (or beer for the bigger boys).
He asks the spectator if they'd like a coke. Problem is he only has one can. In a visual way he seems to make another can materialize - the effect of which looks like a cell splitting into two. It's a pretty split-second. He bangs the two cans together -they sound full and heavy...then he produces the final one. The Method ----------- A six minute video explaining the method is what you get. Shot on handheld - the el-cheapo way. However it is clear and Kevin teaches the effect well. The method is very simple and easy to perform, I'm surprised that no one has said this method has been done before - or maybe I'm just having a "why didn't I think of that? " moment. A gimmick is involved - it will take you about 3 minutes to make - you can get the "it" you need when you go out to buy your cans of coke. This gimmick wont fit in your jeans pocket. you best off having your first can in a sort of get-ready position. In performance the gimmick is near invisible - so don't bother about it to much. The gimmick has the potential to "talk slightly" but this can easily be overcome. Angles --------- Like a torn and restored card effect. You want your spectators in front of you.. about 3-4 feet in front of you for best effect. Think about the angles and crowd control for the Balducci levitation and you'll start to get an idea of Canz! Jacket -------- Yes, you have to wear a jacket. No way around this. Examinable ----------- While all three cans are completely normal as they are real unopened cans, immediately after the effect only 2 are "really examinable. Conclusion ----------- The effect is a pretty thing to watch. It's in slow motion and in the right hands it can look like real magic - especially the first phase. The only downfall is that you have to wear the jacket. All in all I think the effect is a nice one. It would be perfect if you meet up with friends for a few drinks! Score: +/- 7/10 Regards, <Mac> |

I just saw the video for this at Hank Lee's, and I have to say that it looks killer! Closest thing to REAL magic yet!

Could be wrong, but looks like a very good application of the MP-ing B. Ball idea (trying to be cryptic). Can imagine the angles might be a bit 'iffy' but seems like a great bit of cretivity, especialyl if he did get the idea from the 'feeding the 5000' 'miracle'.
Also, I reckon you could do this with sleeves rolled up aswell... If this is done how I think it is, it is one of those 'Why didn't I think of this', otherwise I did lol! |

Sure you can figure it out, but that's not the point. Look at the reactions of the spectators. That is what you buy a trick for, not to fool you or other magicians. It is an interesting technique and he does it very well. And the application could be used in a number of different props.

Mr. Bill:
Quantumfuzzybrain is what's known as an "Internet troll". "In Internet terminology, a troll is someone who comes into an established community such as an online discussion forum, and posts inflammatory, rude or offensive messages designed to intentionally annoy and antagonize the existing members or disrupt the flow of discussion." [Wikipedia] The best way to handle Internet trolls is to ignore them. They often have emotional problems (one famous alt.beatles troll was actually psychotic), so answering them or trying to be logical with them is pointless. JUST IGNORE THE DUDE/DUDETTE. We'll never win the argument and he'll just keep getting whatever sadly-unfortunate obsessive-compulsive kicks he gets by arguing with you. They always go away if no one pays them any attention. Plus there are other, sane comments to discuss.

I made this post before I went and say all the other by him. I would of ignored it then. Oh well. Still a valid point thought that I made.

I totally agree with you mrbilldentertainer, we're trained as magicians to already think in this manner. But a spectator would deffinately be amazed by something so very simple. This is a good point brother, simplicity is sometimes a magicians best friend.

Ok, I bought passing through and I liked it. At the time, I was trying to decide either passing through or canz, I ended up with passing through. I now have canz a very visual effect. The write up says:
K:evin P:arker here. A visual manifestation of food or drink will hail you as a god in some cultures. You've probably heard a story of a man multiplying fishes and bread. Through a desire to see something like this become a physical reality, I have laboured out a way to achieve this and today I bring you Canz. Upon learning the method, you will be able to multiply a real canned drink into three real, unopenned canned drinks, full of liquid, then offer your onlookers one to keep. Yes, this is a visual effect, but has it limitation, such as: One must have a jacket on and not just any ol jacket will do, which means for me, I will not be perfroming this effect this summer, it just will not play that way. Angles are a problem for this effect as well, under the right conditions, this will not be a problem, but this is not going to be your walk around signature effect. Set up is requried and will be really awkward, if you try and maintain the set up for more than a few minutes (even that is pushing it for me, people will think your strange, if you own it, you know it) When will I perform this effect, at parties and done with beer canz, I can see that playing really big. Out on the street maybe--but really hard to say, angles will be a problem. I like the effect, but I really am having problems with the nature of the set up, the jacket idea and of course, the angles. I will keep it with me for the time when I get the right conditions and it will play big. I still need to spend a lot more time with thie effect, but that is my revew for now. |

Let's see....$34 bucks for two sorta OK tricks (Canz and Passing Wind) or $34 bucks towards a good book or DVD with lotsa good tricks. That's a hard choice.

Most of those who saw the demo / effect thought it looked like voodoo. It <looks> incredible. Effect <does> count.
On the other hand, there are significant limitations as with, what, 60% of magic tricks? So anyone who is willing to practice and find the right "equipment", then wait for the right opportunity, will present a voodoo / "special effects" miracle. If you can afford it, you're able to find the right extras, and you're wisely patient, this is a killer trick. Period. Steve Hook

I'll admit I was fooled the first few times I watched the video. (the vid is easy to find, by the way, - most dealers have it on their sites). Having discerned what I strongly believe to be the method, however, I am concerned about this working with most jackets. (Wearing a big black trench coat is very different from wearing a properly fitted suit jacket). I am also concerned that this is another case of a clever idea which should have been submitted to a magazine for publication or saved for a bigger project; but was, instead, made into an over-priced DVD.
Also, I'm totally done watching teenagers react on demo vids. Its pointless. For the love of God, stop. |
