I need ways to lighten things up after taking my victims, I mean audience, too deep and I would like to make this the last upper of the act.
The concept is to do a self-levitation or two on stage then state "That is child's play. Check this out." Run off stage and bounce off an angled trampoline as I am flying back on stage yell "I've learned to fly" and land flat on my face then moan "But not to land". Now what I would like to do is have some kind of pad that is not obvious and it needs to throw a puff of dust without making a mess of me. Any ideas?

You could cover a thin foam pad with a carpet, which wouldn't be too obvious, but just to break your fall and make the bit funnier. Have some foam-filled boxes or spring hampers filled with foam or soft plush animals that you can try to hit and knock over on your way down, sending the stuff scattering, while making your landing a little softer.
You could even grab a huge foam animal as you jump onto the trampoline and come back with it beneath you, giving away your "secret" of flying on the back of a "Pegasus" or even on "Tony the Tiger." I assume you're going to practice this a lot first, right? Your biggest danger seems to be that if you convince people you can fly, you'll get sued for using someone's "godly powers" without his permission.

If you land on a semi-inflated trash bag (on top of some thick foam) and fill the bag with baby powder -- when it bursts, the powder will 'puff' out.

Having practiced this for a few weeks, how thick a pad do you need?

I think it is going to depend on the stage.
I think that I'm only going to do this for a plywood stage and then only if I would be allowed to replace a section in the landing spot so it acts like a wrestling ring.

Could work, but the smallest miscalculation could leave you seriously injured. Go here: http://fwd.jokaroo.org/c.php?i=7654 It's the last seconds of this clip that gets my attention...not the guy throwing himself on his back, (although that is stupid enough in and of itself.)

I would suggest learning how to land first. The pad in reality isn't going to break your fall as much as you think it will. if you land wrong a 3 foot fall could kill you especially and the angle your talking about where your head could be parallel to the floor. I would take some classes on manipulating your body from a martial arts expert so that your landing will be as safe as possible. The pad is just to make it hurt less. You don't want a landing where you won't feel anything at all, wishing for a broken leg.

Neat and funny idea, kinda reminds me of "Sylvester the Jester's". Corey Harris is a member of the Café and a wrestler. He might have some suggestions with a way to land. Better yet a professional wrestler could even help you make it look like it hurt.
Best of luck.

After last night in an unrelated incident, I have decided not to do this.

Wonder is very necessary in life. When we're little kids, we're filled with wonder for the world - it's fascinating and miraculous. A lot of people lose that. They become cynical and jaded, especially in modern day society. Magic renews that wonder.

Big Daddy Cool announced last week that he was retiring due to back pain. Good decision Vater. How about a mannequin and a bungie sling shot?

I do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial arts, I know quite a few ways to land, which I'm hoping will help you achieve what you need to.
Here are some ways: Rolling back drill: This is actually a drill we practice to learn to fall safely without getting hurt. All you simply do is allow yourself to fall back on your back in a "backward roll" motion, except you don't really do a backward roll. You also slm your palms down to the ground to absorb the impact of the fall. It is important to keep your head tucked in so that it doesn't hit the ground. You should remember to have your back bent in an arc, then when you fall back, allow yourself to roll back softly. Notes: If you ever DO fall down, NEVER stick your hands out, you can fracture your wrists severly. ALWAYS land on your arm. Another way to fall is to come down with your side facing towards the ground. Now simply land on the side, and keep your arm straight, with your wrist tucked into your body. Slam the other hand down to the ground to absorb the impact, and also have one leg bent and the other straight. The one that is straight should land straight down to the ground, the bent leg should have its foot slam to the ground. On a final note, these 2 falling techniques are used when you are thrown to the ground, which means that the distance between you and the ground is only about 3-4 feet. If you are thrown down with a higher distance between you and the ground, in all honesty, your pretty much going to hurt yourself, so you should always be careful when trying to get a safe landing from that height. Good luck, |

The main thing if you ABSOLUTELY must do this is to learn to fall from someone who can teach you one on one.
Also, make a soft landing place. Even if you have to surround it with cardboard boxes to conceal the mattress or whatever. And listen to EVERYTHING the guys on that video clip said. It is all true.
